Going to St Ives, I met a man with 7 wives. Each wife had 7 sacks, each sack had 7 cats, each cat has 7 kittens. Kittens, Cats, Sacks and wives, how many where going to saint Ives?

You missed the very beginning of "As I was going..."
Only one is known to be going to St. Ives. However, I'm certain there were others who may have been travelling separately who would later meet the man with 7 wives.
For the inquisitive, the would be 344 going away (that are mentioned) (7kittens*7cats*7wives)+1 man = 344
