He did hand Jesus over to be killed and betrayed him, yet if he hadn't done that, Jesus never would have been able to die for our sins that way, which was God's original plan. So Judas played a significant role in the whole plan, just not a very commendable one.

I love Dr. Frankenfurter, it was Tim Curry's best role.
Only God knows where Judas is now.

Heaven. He did what he had to do. I believe he was probably the most trusted of Jesus' disciples, one who was capable of caring out his orders.
The whole suicide thing is probably another mistranslation. When it says "his bowels split" it probably means the same thing as "he spilled his guts" or "poured his heart". In other words, he obviously felt bad about it. I don't think his actions were evil, like I said, as it had to be done.
Furthermore, the vilification of Judas came later as Judas would represent the stereotypical Jew, as anti-Semitic junk was being spread. (Judas was said to have curly redish hair, love of money, everything negative stereotype associated with Jews).

Hell.
Jesus says this about Judas-
John 17:12
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except (Judas) the son of perdition (eternal damnation), that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

I think he may go to HELL because he committed a sin (killed himself) he wasn't able to ask forgiveness and turn from his wicked ways.
He truly did not understand why Christ had to die.If he did understand then he would not have killed himself, plus he listen to the influences of the devil that made him make the decision to kill himself

Reward and punishment is the law of God, it is not His action.
This divine law maintains order in nature as well as in human society.
When we choose to do right we enjoy heavenly bliss; when we act against God's command, we condemn ourselves to punishment.
It is Judas' action condemned him to hellish fire; it is Saul's action raised him to glorious sainthood.

He did play his crucial part and I seem to recall he tried to give the money back and repent so I suppose it is possible he made it to heaven. No one knows but God.

You are so correct my dear friend this is Ironic seeing as you've answered your own question... God is a forgiver of all sins, a creator of all creatures. What you say is true, need I explain more?

If he repented then he went to heaven if not then he went to hell. He knew the score. He knew who Jesus was.
