My little girl had a big raised birthmark on her bottom. She must of nicked it and seeing as it was inside her nappy it became infected. She had lazer treatment to get rid of the infection but now it is all white and puffy. She is nearly 3 and I was wondering what it might look like when she is older. I know she wouldn't want a huge mark on her bum when she gets older, will it fade?

No I wouldn't make a big deal of it, I was just a bit curious. She has started to notice it and keeps saying 'what's that' and is trying to pull it off lol.

She stole a birthmark?? No seriously! only punning. Yes, overtime it will fade, although probably not completely but it will fade. My daughter who is now aged 10 cut her head quite badly when she was 3. After much ado. My god! i thought, she will be scarred for life!(thinking what you are also thinking now) but you can hardly notice it now...bless er. If it's future consequences you are thinking of regarding body imaging and all of that, dont worry as i'm sure you know we all have a complex in one way or another. I Wish you and your daughter all the happiness in the world from now and into the future. Bless you. xxxx

I wud also say, sum do, sum don't. It depends on it's type. If u r really willing to get the birthmark removed, then consult a professional skin specialist. I think that only a few fade. It's bcoz, the birthmark is caused when our soft and sensitive is damaged or something happens to a part during our gestation period. These marks r mostly permanent. I wud again say, if u r willing to get it removed or faded, then there r processes through which it can b removed.

I can only say I had a big brown birthmark on my back i was born with and this gradually faded until I was about 9 and it vanished!
It depends on the type of birthmark too.Certainly in most cases they do get smaller and fade.

You could ask your health visitor about it, i think it may be smaller when she gets bigger as you say, i don't know if the laser treatment for the infection may have removed the colour of the birthmark or wether it may return, if your health visitor is not much help ask your GP next time you take her.

My little precious girl has one on her face,
At least only special people who love her lots will see her one on her bottom so I wouldn't worry
Hopefully when she is older there will be a quick and painless method to remove it.....

they stay the same size and the person grows...
so they seem to get smaller...
and sometimes they seem to move around.
those things seem important on babies, but
it will be nothing when she gets older.
don't worry about it and don't make a big deal of it.
