Such as when we build a Grocer in the middle of a forest, or an apartment building on the side of a large mountain? How,also can we help to prevent having to do this?

When a wild area like a forest gets developed into buildings, the environment changes from a forest setting to something different. Animals that depend on the forest move if there is somewhere to go, or they die if they can't find another place to live.

New animals that can live around buildings move in and replace the type of animals that lived there before. An animal that lives in a forest may eventually adapt to living in developed areas, but it usually takes decades for this sort of thing to occur, and for some animals, the changes are too large and they will never adapt.

People can reduce problems with new development by planning the developments to keeping a portion of the wild areas undeveloped. Another thing that can be done is to keep new houses and buildings in existing towns so that wild places don't need to be developed.
