Yes, you will lose weight and tone up even if you go slow. The key is to try to do it without stopping, for at least 20-30 minutes. Do this every other day, combined with a healthy diet (and smaller portions). Try to do something else active on the in-between days, like a brisk walk, swimming, dancing, or another healthy activity you might enjoy.

Gradually, as you build up your strength and endurance, you will be able to complete your run much faster. Time yourself; keep a journal of when and how far you ran, how long it took, and your weight that day. Over time, you will see your weight melt off and your running time decrease dramatically. When the run starts to get too easy and too short for you, it's time to up the difficulty level to keep yourself challenged and progressing. increase the distance, and try to pick up the pace a bit.

Cardiovascular exercises such as jogging burn calories/fat, but you need to incorporate some type of strength training or resistance training to help you tone those muscles, such as crunches for your abs (there are several). I suggest joining a gym and/or hiring a personal trainer to help you find a program that's right for you as well as teach you proper form and technique so as not to injure yourself.

WALK don't jog or run. Jogging and running burn glycogen and other carbohydrates in your body, NOT FAT. walking burns fat! In a study I read they said walking 20 minute miles burned the most fat. That's 3 miles an hour. The best time to walk is right before your evening meal. You can look up more info on it online...
