Well,
First, try riding it around for a little while, just up and down your street. Then, you might want to invest in a ramp. What kind of board do you use? If it is a Zoo York, you might want to buy and extra set of trucks and wheels. Better yet, buy them anyways. If your anything like my brother when he first was riding, you might want to also get a really protective helmet, (lol no offense). Once you are used to turning and jumping, try manualing. Its alot easier than people say, well at least when you are on flat land. Then, go to your nearest skate park and try not to fall, seriously, it hurts. BAD. REALLY BAD. Good luck!

It would really help if you had friends who skateboard as well, but start off by getting comfortable with standing and riding so just go around your neighborhood practicing carving. To get you started with tricks, learn the ollie. You dont have to, but it is basically the foundation to almost every trick out there and would help you alot.

watch some trick tip videos.Buy some or find some online.
First off either your a goofy rider (which just means you push with your left foot) or your a regular rider (which means you push with your right).
Now just put which ever foot on the front bolts and use your left or right foot to push yourself.easy enough huh?next step is learning to ollie.

Throw on some good sneakers and just experiment. Start off slow though, you'll get the hang of it really fast!

find some skaters and follow them around and watch them. they will make fun of you at first and pick on you but if you watch what they do you can pick it up then when your good enough they will accept you. Its kinda like the people here on yahoo answers.

See if your city offers lessons. Wear a helmet and other safety gear.
