I was diagnosed with MICA (Mentally ill chemically addicted) I have been off of the drugs which I bought off the street (oxycontin, percocet, vicodin etc.) and am currently taking prozac 80mg and wellbutrin 200mg. Is anyone else on these medications, and if so, did they help you or hurt you? I still get sad sometimes, but not suicidally sad like I used to.

I was diagnosed with clinical depression when I was 14, I am now 20. My parents refused to put me on medication and after a month of seeing a psychiatrist, they stop taking me because it got 'too expensive'. After that, my depression got worse (in my opinion). I started taking several 'street' drugs (took ecstacy, smoked pot) throughout my last 2 years of high school. I was a MAJOR addict. I don't know how I was able to quit, but I moved out of town for a few months in 2004 and have been sober ever since. I still have what I consider to be 'depression episodes' that last for days, if not weeks, every now and then. I've never tried medications, but wouldn't refuse it either. I'm considering it if life ever becomes unbearable. For now, I just try to stay positive. Good luck with the Prozac & Wellbutrin.

I've been thru a whole list of depression medications and finally found one that worked well until the doc that prescribed it left the area and the new one wouldn't continue from where the other doc left off. I then decided to not take any medication. I still suffer from major depression episodes but I have since learned how to weather them. Good friends, lots of laughter and soothing activities and hobbies also help. I have also found that when it gets pretty bad that driving around in my car with the stereo blaring with my favorite music (hip hop or heavy metal, I know it sounds strange but it works for me) helps me alot.

I get depressed sometimes, but I don't take any of those medications. Instead I do things that make me happy and keep me occupied. Playing the guitar and snowboarding are at the top of that list. Smoking pot usually helps my depression too. Basically anything that helps me to not think about crap, because thinking too much sucks.

Now smoking pot AND snowboarding or playing music... and you have a stellar combination.

Sometimes I wonder if feeling bad makes you think f*cked up thoughts, or if it is the bad thoughts that make you feel bad. I think it is both. So it helps me to lie to myself when I am feeling bad by doing and saying positive things that are completely opposite of how I feel. Hey, repeat a lie a thousand times and you start to forget that the bullshit you are saying is a lie to begin with, and it becomes truth.

Crazy huh? Well I think I'm crazy and that is how I deal with my depression.

I recommend you see a doctor. There are several prescriptions that may help you depending on the special conditions you may present. You would be better off with a professional opinion rather than those other people in this forum may share.

Good luck and I hope you get better

I take Lexapro (30 mg) and it works well. I very rarely get sad anymore, whereas before I started taking it the depression was almost constant.
