I've never had a tooth pulled out and now Im really nervous to get my wisdom teeth pulled out tomorrow! Should I take anything before I go so I wont feel the pain? I want them to put me to sleep because I am so squeamish I just cannot imagine the pulling and all the weird noises when they pull it out. What it is like? Will they put me to sleep if I ask them to? help!!!

Yes, they will put you to sleep. It is so fast... I got put to sleep when I had to get all four of my wisdom teeth out at once, it was like one second I was wide awake, then they put the anesthisia in me, and the next second I was awake in the recovery room. Dont take anything with out asking your doctor. They will supply you with pain medications so you wont have severe pain after the procedure. Dont worry! You will be fine sweet heart I promise!

I had all four of mine pulled out a few years ago. I wasn't put completely under, I had an IV, and at some stage was given some gas. It was kind of strange being aware of what the dentists were saying, but being out of it. It didn't really hurt though, I could feel the pulling but not the pain. I think it took about 45 minutes, then I had to lay down for an hour afterwards for the drugs to wear off.

My bottom two were impacted, and afterwards my face swelled horribly, and I had bruisng part of the way down my neck. The swelling was completely gone within a week. It was painful, but not as much as I thought it would be. I took Panadeine Forte and Ibuprofen, and that really helped. Also, I used an antiseptic mouthwash that kind of numbed the areas around my stitches.

The worst (but manageable) pain was during the first three days. It hurt to talk, and I was living off soup. Plus, everyone was calling me to see how I was! I got my house-mate to tell people that I was sleeping, because it hurt to talk. My advice would be to text or e-mail people and tell them not to call, it will make recovery a bit easier.

I was fully functioning again after about a week, still getting slight twinges, but mostly okay.

My sister just had two of her wisdom teeth taken out, and she was put under all the way (she used a private dentist, I used a government dentist-I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but the cynical part of me wouldn't be surprised if the government skimped a bit on these things). She didn't swell or bruise like I did, but the recovery time was about the same.

So, it's painful, but tolerable. Good luck!

I had all my wisdoms out at once and it really wasn't that bad.

I was asleep for mine. The oral surgeon gave my IV Valium and nitrous gas. Zonk! Out like a light! I awoke when it was over and spent an hour waking up. They them poured me into a cab with my mom and went home. I slept the rest of the afternoon.

Your dentist may not want you eating before the proceedure if s/he's putting you a general anesthetic as it would reduce the chance of getting anything in your lungs should you vomit and then aspirate it.

Also, I found it useful to have some soft foods already at home in case you're hungry afterwards.

The recovery wasn't bad at all. I had no discoloration, and just a touch of swelling. I could eat regular foods with comfort after just two days.

Try to keep the big picture in mind - life without painful wisdoms making your mouth hurt.

If you want them to put you out for the procedure do not eat or drink anything at least 8 hours before. If they have to cut anything they most likely will put you out because if they are impacted they cut. If they are not impacted they don't usually put you out but some doctors will, (mine did) when I had mine out because I am very squeemish too.

You will get a little swelling but not too terrible, it usually goes down in a couple of days, as for pain it was not that bad, but then again mine were not impacted, but still they give pain pills which are a good thing. Just after they are removed, stick to soft foods,
and take your pain pills.

Well... my surgeon pulled me out my four teeth of wisdom at the same time, even if they were under my gum. So he kind of digged inside my gum to pull them out. I was 15 years old and yes... it hurts!

But it will hurt you most AFTER the surgery.

I've never heard about anyone getting completely to sleep while he was getting this kind of surgery, but they will make you a local anaesthetic. This is done with several injections and it is certainly not fun.

So, if you want me to be honnest, it won't be easy, but you can't do anything at all to prepare yourself except relaxing... and preparing some liquid food.

Calm down! It depends if your getting it pulled or cut out. If the wisdom tooth is already grown out then they just pull it out. They didnt put me to sleep but gave me a shot in the gums just like getting a filling and actually it was ALOT better than getting a filling I think! Quicker and less noise, no drilling or anything and I wasnt in ANY pain afterward he gave me a presciption and I didnt even use it! Now if theyre cutting it out which means its still not grown all the way out I think they will put you to sleep and its a little painful afterward.

Like I tell my daughter about going to the dentist. What he's going to do to you now is NOTHING compared to the amount of pain you will have if you wait... The older you get the more its going to hurt. Don't psych yourself out by listening to your retarded friends telling you how much its going to hurt. Its a dentist and what they do hurts. No way around it..It'll hurt, but it'll go away. I've had 2 pulled. When i got mine done my jaw hurt, under my ears, where the joint is, worse than the spot where the teeth came from. If hes got the Nitrous Gas system, Let him gas you out. its way better...Good Luck.

dont be so worried to many people see the dentist as a big scary evil man who is just out to cause you pain but thats not true at all just go early and talk to the secretary about giving you laughing gas or some other medication that will give you that no pain no fear feeling im sure she can and will arrange something no need to worry it doesnt hurt at all your mouth may be a little sore a few days after but it doesnt hurt in the process

its gonnna be super painful and the dentist is a mean witch...jk. I wont hurt at all. You wont feel a thing during the surgery. The only thing to be worried about is that after the surgery, for about an hour you wont be able to feel your mouth. The shot is probably the worst part(if your dentist even gives u one) ive had 8 teeth yanked and im still livin
