Here is the low down. If it is a debt you have never paid then yes. The original collector sells it to one collection agency and then if that agency does not collect the debt from you it is sold again and again to different agency's , reported by the various ones on your credit report. I have seen the same debt reported by different agency's, at different times as many 4 times on a credit report...... It is sold to all of these collection agency's for less and less money . So when dealing with a collection agency offer them say 12 cents on the dollar so that you have room to negotiate. But don't pay them 100% and don't pay them anything over 35 cents on the dollar because chances are that company bought your debt somewhere between 12-22 cents on the dollar.

No! Write the collection agency directly and ask for validation. DO NOT dispute with the credit reporting bureaus. Only ONE collector can have the account at a time; you can't owe two people for the same debt.

Yes, it can appear as a duplicate. Depending on the credit report you have - you will have to dispute the incorrect information with the Repository - Equifax, Experian or TransUnion. If you obtained a credit report from a lender, ask them who they request their credit from (Equifax, TransUnion and Experian) you can then dispute the incorrect information online - all three have their own websites.

Yes, the same company can appear on several credit reports until u clear with them. But once u pay them off, make sure u get a statement tht u cleared with the company, And sometimes it stays on there for awhile even after u pay it off.

You cannot be charged 2 times for the same bill. You only owe it one time. I suggest you call each of the companies trying to collect the debt and let them know one of them is going to have to drop the charges. If not then call the company who turned you over and let them know of their mistake and have them contact them to drop one of the bills. Good Luck they are a pain in the butt to deal with.

the only sequence employer who can positioned a catalogue on your credit checklist is the only that has a criminal actual to collect the debt. If sequence employer A sells the debt to sequence employer B, then sequence employer A ought to eliminate their itemizing.

It doesn't sound legal but who knows. Credit is the beast that controls the world. It can do what it wants.
