Ok. When most people think of the low carb diet, they think of Dr. Atkins and all the negativity surrounding that diet. And as for being bad, this is how I control my pre-diabetes. And it's with the blessings of my Dr. She uses this diet for her heart patients that desperetly need to loose weight safely so that they can have surgery.

The fact is, low carb diets a great as balancing out the blood sugar, which is one reason most people have a problem in the first place. When we get hungry, it's because our blood sugar has dropped, that's what triggers the want to eat.

If you're looking in Atkins, forget what you've been told and read the book yourself. People who THINK they know about Atkins have never read the books. In the Atkins diet there are several phases, the first phases, phase 1, has you eating only 20 grams of carbs a day to stoke your metabolism. These carbs come from salads and non-starchy veggies. You have meat, but you don't pig out on it. And you decide how much protien you want, you don't have to push it up to a high protien diet. Just eat meat in the same portions as anyone else would. As for the fat, yes..it's allowed, but even the book says not to pig out on it either.
Phase one lasts for 14 days, then you go on to phase two called OWL-on going weight loss.

OWL is where you slowly start to add more carbs to your diet,again..the form of veggies, but soon you add in nuts and some fruits. You start out by adding 5 more carbs a day, then you push it up to 5 more, again and again, until you get to the point where your body stops loosing weight. When that happens, you bring it down about 5 or 10 carbs, and then you know how many carbs you can eat a day to keep loosing your weight.

The other phases are for maintaining your weight.

Here's a excellent forum where there is great support and knowledge. These people will be glad to help you learn more about lowcarb dieting. Also, if you're using Atkins as the form of diet, they have what's called a "Boot Camp" online. For two weeks you're "walked through" your induction.
