I just got engaged, and thus begins the process of planning a wedding. Holy crap.

A lot of the beautiful locations around here have a site rental fee that is more than my car is worth! Seriously, $4k PLUS catering & booze??

I found one or two restaurants with nice surroundings that don't charge a rental fee, just a catering fee. Anyone found places in the Los Angeles area that are inexpensive? I'm open to both off-beat and traditional.

Thanks!

Don't worry! It just hit me that my wedding is only 8months from now (I got engaged in March). I'm trying to cut back on location expenses so I can have an elegant sit down dinner and nice reception. What I'm doing is finding a local park in the area and trying to figure out a way to get the park reserved for the wedding. Most towns don't really require a large fee and you'll be able to spend more money on things that really matter, like a nice dinner and drinks for the guests.

Most hotels or other locations require you to select from a list of caterers that they choose so be really careful with that. Most importantly, have fun with it. I wanted to have a non-traditional, non-denominational wedding that would suite both my fiances family and mine so I've opted for an outdoor, late afternoon wedding. Good luck!!!

Tough question for So Cal. You might want to post this under "Local Businesses."

Edit: The park idea below is a good one. Where in So Cal do you plan on having the wedding?
