Is it better for the environment to flush the toilet paper, or put it in the trash? (I was going to flush anyways.)

Don't just state your opinion, please - I need details about which one is truly better for the environment. Where does the paper go? Does it get broken down? Which one is faster? Stuff like that....

(I already asked this in the polls category, but I thought environment might get me better answers.)

robert b - I wasn't worrying about it, just curious. Maybe YOU should be the one to "get a life". One sentence with 3 mistakes?? Sad.....
Thorian - don't try to peg people when you truly have no idea what they're about. I'm not even close to that type. True, you did apologize, but a real man wouldn't have gone off the deep end in the first place. Control your hostility, and maybe even seek counseling if you can't get it under control. I checked out some of your other answers, and they were many rude ones. If you were really as great as you claim to be, you wouldn't keep having to insult people who don't deserve it. (I almost picked you for best answer after your apology - but I just couldn't do it.)

I don't think it matters. If you throw it in the trash, it will not get recycled; I don't know of any paper recyclers that accept used toilet paper, even if you only blew your nose with it. And if you were going to flush the toilet anyway you aren't wasting water. If you flush it, it gets broken down in the water and ultimately it becomes part of the sludge from the sewage treatment plant. Some sludge is used as fertilizer, so in a way, I guess that is recycling.

I'll tell you what. You aren't going to make a difference by doing stupid little things like this. No matter how many people tell you that every little thing helps. They are just lazy and self serving people who live in a comfort zone they aren't going to part with for anything.

So if you really want to make a difference for the environment blow your nose and wipe with the same paper. Then save it for round two later in the day. Or if your feeling like spreading the anti global warming fad share it with a friend. Then walk down to the coffee shop carrying your cup and ten pounds of self rightousness and order some coffee that travelled half way around the globe on a diesel ship.

The toilet paper you flush down will be caught on filters in the cleaning station and will be transported to junkyard (I am not sure what the right word is). The same would happen if you would trow it away.
Happy new year.

Down the toilet, it will get broken down at the sewage treatment plant. In the trash, it might end up in a landfill.

as long because it hasn't been used for the rest i do no longer see a difficulty. i've got considered human beings blow their noses "facial tissue" yet refuse to apply "rest room tissue." the rest room tissue is folded in yet in any different case yet softer and greater absorbent. recover from it human beings.

if you define humans as part of the environment (ie like in a city envoronment...) then whatever is your convienience is whatever is best. It is a dog eat dog world, after all.
