This is a question that is on my mind for a long time, why dogs freak out when a mailman come by?

Everytime a stranger come by they get defensive but will attack when mailman come by, why?

My dog loves the mailman, he brings her treats everyday....!!!!

The main reason is, The mailman comes to this dogs house everyday, drops off whatever it is that he is dropping off, and then is on his way again. Yet the dog still remains tied up or locked up in the same yard day after day. the second reason most dogs freak with the mail man is most times some mailmen have had other dogs either female or male rub off on them, thus,causing them to freak due to their smell.

My dad is a mail carrier....it wierd. If he meets the dog with out his uniform on, the dogs are fine, but with the mail carrier uniform on they freak out! Some of them are determined to GET him! We always made the joke, that when dogs are puppies they are taken aside and beaten profusly by some one in a mailman outfit...sometimes I wonder if I'm right....(we even got a mailman toy for my puppy...as a joke for my dad!)

because the mailman comes to the house everrrrry sinnnngle day and doesnt come in the door, doesnt meet or greet, he/she just goes up to the door, fiddles with the door and then walks awaaaaayyyy....
you can see how the dog would get a little pissy.

Um it really has no relation to just a mailman, its because when they don't know someone they get very territoral it's like this is my house stay away! Ya know what I mean?

cuz he's still a stranger to him/her. unless the mail person pets the dog and makes friends with the dog then it will still just be some stranger.
