yes. they are indeed poison. if your child or pet has ingested some, take them to the apropriate doctor, immediately.

Actually, mothballs can be toxic. They contain camphor, which is what discourages moths from getting into clothing that is protected by mothballs, but camphor can be toxic. It's always a good idea to air things out thoroughly after they have been stored in mothballs or you can wind up with a colossal headache.
