Basal thermometer. You can find them in chemists - they are labelled basal thermometers or you can buy fertillity thermometers (you can find them amongst the pregnancy tests usually). Failling that you can use a good digital thermometer (or mercury thermometer) so long as it records the temperature in 0.1 degree incremements. Whichever on you use, you must use the same one throughout your cycle, and note on your chart if you have to use a different one or if you have to change the batteries, etc.

A basal or mercury thermometer would be the most accurate. You can get variations in a digital thermometer. If you do choose to use a digital thermometer I would suggest taking your temp. twice in a row to get a better reading.

Otherwise, I'd suggest that regardless of the thermometer remember that consistancy is the key. Always the same time, the same way, everything the same as much as possible.

old style mercury thermometer, unfortunately... up your bottom... i had to do it, and it was very accurate.
