My friend is a professional chef and he likes whustoff (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) knives and le cruest (I spelled that one right) cookware. What I always do for him is go to william sonoma and let him pick something out- he loves everything there. Either that or crate & barrel. He also loves a magazine- I believe it's called chef's illustrated or something- they only have a few recipes in each issue but they test them like a thousand times and find the very best way to do it.

I've known about 3 professional chefs. In all honesty, they're fairly laid back in their personal lives and wants. If they wanted something, they'd just go out and get it for themselves. (And they're picky too.) One got himself an old Jeep Wrangler, another only wanted season football tickets, and the last thing they want to think about in their off time is more kitchen.

You should know your fiance well enough to be creative. Even a steel for sharpening knives (with the ring on the steel) could be really creative!

I know two professional chefs, but that won't help you with a gift.... I would look into a store where he buys his cooking supplies. Good knives are always a great idea....fresh spice plants may be nice becuase they will continually grow.
Good luck!

Yes, I know a profession chef. A good gift for a chef would probably be something NOT work related...especially since it's an engagement gift. Be romantic. Think from the heart. Give your fiance something that will be appreciated and adored...not something to use at work.

Try something from here:

doesn't hurt.

i'm a retired chef and that i attempt to no longer prepare dinner for all and sundry yet myself anymore. I have been given into cooking reason I enjoyed it, questioning everybody could like the meals I prepare dinner as much as I do (and my brothers, my mom). What a dissappointment!!! everybody got here to me asserting, "i do no longer choose for this 'n that, etc. etc. Ppl. have the nerve to telephone you and demand (no longer request) which you prepare dinner a dish for them; force for the time of city and convey it over, blah, blah, blah. everybody has their own tastes, 'n dislikes and usually it is not comparable to yours. So now, I prepare dinner for decrease than myself or for my immeadiate kin, and to heck with the whiners. I used to grant out recipes and whilst ppl. accused me of no longer itemizing all the climate, you ought to have disregarded something, reason mine did no longer finally end up like yours, then i finished giving out recipes too. i won't be able to have self assurance how ungrateful ppl. could be. Tsk.... Pp. could have lots greater comprehend for you in case you in basic terms prepare dinner your own particular favorites and not cater to a unmarried persons whims, positioned the nutrition on the table and say... "Dinner is served! in case you do in comparison to what we've, then get on your pirvate jet and fly over to Dubai and make a reservation at Buri Al Arab Luxerious unique motel, (expenditures $2,000.00 a nighttime) and place an order on your meal there. Tsk... "
