Gotta tell ya...some of the se answers may be the exact reason you get depressed. Winter weather ( that light solstice depression), walks alone, family, sex etc. Personally , I used to get thet way and dread holidays . I became so depressed . One day my therapist said to me....what the heck is a holiday except another day with a special name. It's just a regular day of the week named something instead of Monday, Tuesday etc. She's exactly right. At that point I really was sick and tired of being sick and tired and pitying myself. So now Xmas day is like a work day. If I feel like it I'll work and catch up on stuff. Then grab a bite to eat and take a day off that may be more convenient for me., Not many may have this luxury but it kinda puts things in perspective. If poeple ask what u did you say ...it was low key. Just spent it quietly...done...walk away...no more answers needed.
BTW We me, my kids and husband are jewish so we have our days too. Things get wayy too blown out of proportion. We try to keep it simple and acknowledge these days but not drown ourselves in them.We don't do 8 nights of Hannukah but 1...we will do the candles though. we don't do a big New year but will have sparkling wine for the kids and plain wine for us and some chinese food.
Keeping it real simple.

There is no "quick fix". I will tell you some things that might help though. Try to play a sport or get exercise. Find a close friend, family member, or counselor you can talk to, but make sure it's somebody who is a good listener and doesn't judge people. Spend as much time as you can doing a hobby --- writing, painting, beading, modeling, something like that. If you don't have a hobby, get one. It will help you concentrate and give you a sense of accomplishment. Buy or rent a funny movie. My own favorites are "Galaxy Quest" and "Trading Places". If it's really bad, you may need to be on medication. Some people like St. John's Wort. You don't need a prescription, you can even get it at the supermarket. Let us know how you're doing.

Do you sleep more than usual, eat more, are fatigued and lack energy and are crabby and sad? You may have seasonal affective disorder or "winter depression". In the winter reduced exposure to light lowers your serotonin levels and more darkness increases melatonin. Spending more time outside in the daytime can be very effective. There are also special lights you can buy.

A brisk walk around the block a few times. And if you can briskly walk down to the homeless shelter and see all those poor saps in there, well that might cheer you up once you get back to your warm snug bed.

Go shopping at the sales! Few things feel better than getting something you want at half price. Take a friend with you if you can.

yes, go for a walk, for starters. then find something to do regularly, that you enjoy and do it. Stop expecting perfection, let others do things you normally do and get more sleep.
