the gene for hyperovulation(the ovaries releasing more than one egg) is passed on woman to woman.
identical twins are an anomoly, a random occurance.
you could get pregnant with twins, anyone can. they happen in 1:100 live births.

Identical Twins - This type of twin is not hereditary. The twining of the egg is a fluke thing. I guess there is no scientific explanation for it.

Fraternal Twins - This type of twin is hereditary, and it comes from the mothers side (female side).

Twins can happen even if it does not run in the family. For instance, your chances increase the older you get, and if you use fertility drugs, etc.

The woman would need the genes for twins. Your husband's sperm is not powerfull enough to either make you have two eggs or split one into two. Now, your husband can give his twin genes, if he has any to your daughter, but your husband cannot make you have twins. Also I was almost 40 when I had my twins and twins and multiples are more prevalent now because women are having kids when they are older and your older body is prepping for menopause, spitting out more than one egg sometimes, and making moms over 35 have a 1 in 4 chance of having multiples.

I don't know that anything is fool proof. I have a friend who is an identical twin & she married a man who is a fraternal twin & they did NOT have twins. The have three kids, a girl who is 12, a son who is 10 & another girl who is 6.
There are also people with NO family history of twins who end up having twins, soooo....

Since you are not married though, why worry about having a baby out of wedlock? This world has plenty already....

If your mother or female relative had fraternal twins, you may be more likely to have twins. Twins on the father's side do not increase your chances of twins. However, many women have twins and have no known history of twins in their family. "Older' mothers and mothers who already have children are more likely to have twins.

It has to do with the mother's side. She is the one who releases the egg(s) so that is why faternal twins are born. Identicial twins are just a chance of nature. No one side will determine that. Good luck.

I have identical twin daughters. I was told that father's pass it to their daughters, but only in the case of fraternal twins. Identical can happen to anyone.

My sister in law had twin girls. It skipped two generations before twins were born.
