I'm a DirectTV subscriber. Should I check with DirectTV on getting my TiVo? Does it matter? What are my options?

I've got "TiVo" through DirecTV - its actually a DVR but I call it TiVo (- like calling all sodas "Coke.")

Because I've had service for a while and paid on time they offered me a free upgrade and free "TiVo" for a year.

Call them and ask if they have a special on it. I'm sure they can find SOMETHING that would be cheaper than a real TIVO.

The only advantage I know of that TiVo has over DVR's is that it says in it's commerical that it is the only one that can output to a computer (for recording to DVD.) But you'll have to look into that a little more if you are interested. I can still record to a tape through my VCR from mine...

I'm not quite sure what this has to do with cooking, but we were told to go to RadioShack or Best Buy since the cheapskates didn't provide 2 boxes for us.

at this point, buying a Tivo is a complete waste of money. You can get it through your cable provider or probably directv.

You can buy tivos from tivo.com, retail stores such as best buy or at websites such as www.weaknees.com and www.9thtee.com
