Any Golf Teacher that is worth taking lessons from will be a PGA Class "A" Golf professional , when you are looking for a teacher ask to see their card that should state that info or their certificate that says they are , if they don't have it I would not bother taking lessons from them they might be cheaper , but I am sure you want quality instruction so seek a teacher out that has those credentials.
Good Luck .

Now that's a good question. Sometimes by word of mouth. Try asking around and getting the opinions of people who have had golf lessons and how they may or may not have helped them It's almost like choosing a doctor or a builder. you can find quacks everywhere. A good rule of thumb is to search out a Class A PGA professional. These people are the tried and true(mostly). They have actually undergone extensive training by the PGA as to all the facets of being a PGA card carrying professional. They come with a little higher price but they are worth it.

It depends on your skill level just about any teacher can teach the basics so if your are very new go to your local course and get a lesson. But if your a good player choose the teacher based on reputation and personal knowledge. Some better players hate lessons they can ruin your game if you try to overhaul your swing in my opinion their is so much golf related topics on the net information is easy to get but having a trained eye can really help if they are willing to work with your personal swing.

Most courses have golf instructors (or a Pro) to give lessons and such. Get to know the pro and just talk to them about golf, then you can ask them about your problems (why your slicing or what not) and you can take a lesson to learn how to use your swing (yes, you don't have to have a "perfect" swing to hit the ball good) to get the results you want.
*I found that the best teachers are the ones that don't tell you what your doing wrong, they do something to let you know.
My instructor used to hold onto my hair when I swung so if I moved my head it would really hurt.

ask around, but that doesn't mean you will like the teacher . You may have to try a few different teachers to find one that you like.
