I am a twelve, almost thirteen-year-old girl. Every day, when I come home from being cooped up inside for seven hours each day at school, I watch TV, play video games, or play computer until dinner. I want to get into a more healthy lifestyle, and want some outdoor stuff to do that doesn't take much muscle or time. What is a good way to get better muscle in arms and legs? I am thinking of running, biking, and/or jumping rope. Are any of these good?

All of the activities you listed are really good! Swimming is good too. Pick something you enjoy doing and stick with it. Good luck!! Good for you, wanting to start a healthier lifestyle at your age!! :-)

Running, biking and jump rope are all good but to tone your muscles, you will have to do weights. They shouldn't be heavy since multiple reps are better for toning. I still manage to watch TV, play video games or the computer but I get my exercise in first. At least 30 minutes per day of exercise is suggested.

I am only 10 and my teacher says that you should eat lots of vegetables. Running, biking, and jumping rope are the perfect active activities for a girl.

All are good choices. Walking is one of my faves. Try going up hills and bumpy spots, they will help the muscles in your legs and calves. Drink plenty of water!
