They're all going to hurt no matter what. True some places hurt more than others, but think of it this way - the pain is momentary. It will pass and after a while you'll hardly recall how painful it was. Make sure you get it somewhere you'll be happy with in the long run, not someplace you compromise on because you think it may not hurt as much. That's pretty much my best advice to you.

As a note to your actual question, I have a tattoo on my left foot, and on my right ankle (inside, low) and those both hurt horribly. My artist said those were 2 of the most painful places to get it on, and of course I pick them. I also have one on the inside of my right wrist and that barely hurt at all. It was like no pain, honestly. Also, everyone reacts differently. Some people say wrist tattoo's hurt a lot. It just depends. If you want it somewhere not noticeable, maybe your back would be a good spot since it's easily covered.

Good luck!

I'll give you some of the DON'Ts first: avoid your inner upper-arm, your ankle, your hip bone, your neck and your lower-back. All of these are very painful. I know from personal experience, not the neck, but the other four. If you are looking for less intense, then I recommend your bosom, your bum, your tummy, or your outer-hip. I also recommend the smaller the better, the less filled in the artwork is, the less time you will be under the needle. Truth is, tho, once the adrenaline kicks in, it gets much more tolerable. Good luck and only go to a reputable tattoo artist that uses only new needles (not sanitized/sterilized and reused) and don't believe the wive's tale about putting Preparation H on it to take the swelling down. Use Neosporin with pain reliever and clean it often and covered the first few days. Again, good luck!

Where ever you decide is best for you, the most important thing above all else is to make sure your tatoo artist washes his hands, along with wearing gloves, your surroundings are clean and sterile, and you witness the needle being opened from a sealed package. You can never be too cautious. I have two, one above the crack of my butt, and the other on my breast, they are in places that can both be displayed publicly, or both can be easily hidden. I have had mine for many years and have not once regretted the decision to have them. The more detailed of design and the skinnier you are, the more uncomfortable they feel when being done. For me, they were well worth it. Good Luck to you with this.

it all hurts. some places more than others. you could get it on your ankle or on your shoulders or back. my first tattoos were on my back. i think it's a good place because you don't see it every day and get tired of it. i have since moved on to getting tattoos that i do see on a daily basis but after knowing that i am not tired of having tattoos. good luck with your first. research your artist please and make sure he/she is a good one. bad tattoos really are horrible to have. check portfolios. if you don't like what you see, move on and look until you see something that really impresses you.

I just had my first tattoo done on the back of my right shoulder few months ago. First of all, it's a picture of my 2yo son sleeping with his teddybear, I had wings added to him so he looks like an sleeping angel. He died 20 years ago when he was 2. So, this tattoo is special to me, not just any wild tattoo. Remember it's going to on you for the rest of your life. Make good choices.

My first was went on my lower back because I didn't know if I'd like seeing it. However one of the next went on my hip and I don't mind seeing it. The one on my hip hurt the worse. But all in all they weren't so bad...pain wise.

First of all don't do a tattoo on your arm, unless you are an ex-convict! a nice tattoo would be on your upper back, on the ?deltoid?

think about what you like to wear. seriously! where are you almost always covered? if you wear strappy shoes don't get it on your feet. if you like belly shirts don't do your hip or belly, etc. I got mine on my lower left back. it didn't really hurt there. your neck is hidden but it hurts a lot. any place there is bone close to the skin is going to hurt a lot.
