The best rated Upconverting DVD Players are Oppo. The two current models are the 971 and 981, the difference being that the 981 does not have component video outputs. The high definition/upconverted signals (480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) are output via the HDMI port only.

The page below has a lot of graphics on it, so allow it to load completely. It's a review of more than 100 progressive scan and/or upconverting DVD players. The Oppo 971 is the only player on the page to Pass every test. The 981 is brand new, so is not included in the testing.

I assume you want to use it with an HDTV.

Well, don't waste your money. Let the TV do all the upscaling. It is highly probable that it has a better scaler/deinterlacer than the DVD player.

Side note1: 80% of all DVD players use the same DVD player chip. So, get the cheapest DVD player with component out.
