Further to my previous question,"do you think the care in hospitals is good"? thanks for all your info, i realise there are good and bad and good and bad nurses too. although nurse training nowadays is based on academic ability and not patient care or bedside manner.from doc's to cleaners all are scared of being sued.my daughter stay in hosp was an example of poor care and it was reported. i have another family member who has had surgery recently at same hosp and they tore his kidney necessitating prolonged recovery for a self employed person. action is being taken against the surgeon so i cannot divulge too much.action was again taken against nurses too and was adequatly covered up internally, same ward, same hosp as my daughters experience.they all protect each other god help those who cannot stand for themselves, pallitive care is very good i admit.but thats what they work towards by poor care in other dept's, they create their own problems.i am thoroughly disgusted with the present

I am sorry for your run of bad experiences.
As a nurse in a gynaecology ward, we try to give good, individualised and appropriate care to everyone who stays on our ward (although they may be orthopaedic or medical or general surgery patients placed on our ward due to bed shortage).

When we receive patients outside our speciality, we contact the specialist wards to find out how best to care for this patient. The health service is very strained, and this is evident in the many cracks.

On our ward, we ask each patient - routinely, as part of the discharge process - if they have been happy with their care and how it could have been improved. We ask at the end of stay 'cause people don't like to complain while being looked after in case of recrimination.

We welcome honest criticism and complaint because this is when we can make good changes and improvements that benefit all.
97% of our patients state they have enjoyed their stay as far as they could. So I would just like to say that we are not all bad.

Sorry for your experiences, may they only get better from now on. Good luck with your legal actions.

All these problems and you still chose to take your daughter there for care. Sounds like you are the one who needs some "action" taken against her. Or maybe you're one of those who needs that sort of "action" in her life to be happy. I think I would do a little more research next time before trusting my family's life in someone elses hands.

We are all in a habit to blame the medical community, when you point one finger to anyone already three fingers are pointing at you.
Why old homes, nursing homes where people leave their parents to die. I firmly believe in so shall you sow so shall you reap.
