I resent the law telling me what kinds of herbs i use. I hurt no one and it helps my stomach after kemo, it has alot of other purposes to the heath. Oh, no, I forgot, it can't be taxed, so it is against the law.......Pleeeeeze!

I agree with the Libertarians on this one. Legalize it, tax it, and free up jail/prison space for violent offenders. I don't use it, will never use it, and don't have any close friends who do. But I don't see why it needs to be illegal. I think that someday the prohibition will be lifted, just as it was with alcohol. Obviously, fighting its use is a losing battle.

Hemp was made illegal to protect the chemical industries when synthetic fibers were developed. Then in WWII the military needed lots of fiber to make cordage so the government started a crash program to grow hemp again. After the war it was criminalized yet again to protect Du Pont and the alcohol and tobacco industries. Pot has been a political football for a long time. Now they're telling us that it's the biggest cash crop in the United States even though the stuff is amazingly cheap to grow. The stuff definitely has medicinal properties, and an acre of hemp produces as much fiber as three acres of trees but the powers that be continue to pretend it's evil. Government insanity never ends.

I don't think my dad could have eaten at all while he was sick with cancer if it wasn't for weed. How is it OK to synthesize it (marinol) and prescribe it for nausea, but then claim the plant has no medicinal properties? If you ask me people need to wizen up.

I live in California and we've had legal medicinal marijuana for 12 years now without the suicide rate skyrocketing. In my county it's even legal for personal (that's right, recreational) use if on your private property.
Those who say it's an illegal drug and should stay that way need to look at history. Making alcohol illegal brought about the rise of the mob--huge profits are to be made in contraband!
In California the price is now about half of what is was before the medical marijuana law was passed. Teenage use has remained the same, no spikes in suicide rates, and needy people can legally get the medicine they need, at a decent price.

I understand how you feel. I used Marijuana years ago. It was the best Antidepressant I ever used.

I see no reason Medical Marijuana shouldn't be available, per Rx.. I don't however think having it Legal as a Recreational Drug is a good thing. Marijuana Smoke has more Carcinogens than a Carton of Chesterfields ! It has many serious side effects that are not pleasant, and must be regulated. But, no I don't think it's use as a Medicine should be illegal.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a user. I agree, but from a freedom / Libertarian perspective. I don't like the gov telling me anything. Also, it's so hypocritical when sooo many people have used the HERB and still have laws against it. I mean, one can do a lot more damage drinking beer than smoking weed.

I agree 110%...

My sister suffers from Lupus. Two years ago, she was on so many differing medications that she went into a coma for six months... When she came out of it and finally left the hospital, I suggested medicinal marijuana. Since then, she has stopped killing her liver with medications designed to counteract other medications that have counteracted other medications, she no longer is addicted to Demerol, and hasnt taken a sleeping pill in over a year. She has been out of the hospital for almost one year now... All from smoking herb and not hurting a soul....

Would I want my Children to use it? No...

Would I use it? No

But who am I to tell other people what they can or can not do. From what I have been told it is no more harmful than alcohol (which is legal) so why not legalize it and tax it use the money for education.

I believe that as long what some one does doesn't hurt another I should mind my own business.

I'm all for having it legalized - and regulated, like alcohol. I don't see much difference between it and alcohol as far as recreational drugs go, and it does have beneficial health properties for some. An age limit, production regulations, and DUI restrictions would curb any potential problems.

It was demonized a few decades ago and grouped with things like cocaine, which it honestly does not resemble. It is not a 'gateway' drug and has fewer ill afteraffects than booze.

I'm fifty years old and a Christian, and I think it should not only be legalized, I think it should never have been not legal. The only thing is, if it is legal, its probably not going to be very good, and God only knows what they'll end up putting in it - what if they start putting in additives that make it addicting like ciggarettes? I don't trust "them" at all. Oh, also, I know what you mean about your stomach feeling better after chemo - It settles nausea - its also great for glaucoma - that horrible swelling, etc. - I'm surprised they don't throw people in jail for using parsley in meatballs.

Marijuana has a far less negative impact on society as alcohol does.

Both alcohol and pot can mess up your life if you abuse it, but alcohol has a greater negative effect on society as a whole.

Pot has some redeeming qualities in terms of medical use, booze has none.

So, yes, I think it should be legalized, but controlled. No advertising for pot or alcohol and age limits for it's use.
