I have just asking this question based on this article.

Researchers led by Dustin Penn and Ken Smith of University of Utah looked at case studies of 21,000 couples living in Utah between 1860 and 1985, who bore a total of 174,000 children.

They found that the couples had an average of eight children each, but family size ranged from one to 14 or more children.

The data showed that the more children a couple produced, the higher their risk of early death, reported the online edition of BBC News.

No, why would it?

It can do, but then having no kids increases the risk of some cancers, such as uterine cancer and breast cancer.

Women who have had a lot of kids tend to suffer from pelvic floor problems. The womb tends to sag and if not operated on early will eventually push down into the vagina and turn the vagina outside in, so she ends up with about 4.5" of vagina projecting outside her body. That was very common a century ago and more. Nowadays the womb is usually removed before it reaches that stage. Otherwise, no particular problems other than exhaustion and financial poverty!

I'm from a family of 11 children. My parents are in their seventies. To my knowledge there is no known change to your expected life span for having or not having children except these things:
-Breast feeding is supposed to help prevent cancer in women
-Women's bodies change in different ways after having children

I believe that stress and other emotions will cause physical ailments, but that is based mostly on your perception of events as to whether you get stressed out about things. In other words some people may get very stressed out by one or two children and some may not have any stress even with 5 children.

Additionally, how you raise them matters greatly. And if you can not dedicate enough attention to your children or don't have the financial capability of providing for many children, you, my advice is focus your attention and money on fewer children, not for your sake, but for theirs.

Realize that having children is not for you - it's for them. It's a huge sacrifice and you need to not resent that so only have the number of children you and your wife both feel you can handle.

Kids won`t shorten any mothers life STRESS will. She could have many children + as long as she doesn`t worry about them(not too likely) it will not afect the length of their life.

I don't think so, my Grandmother had 9 children all born at home and she lived to be 96.

I don't think having more kids will shorten your life but having to work more hours to make enough money to buy food and cloths would probably kill ya.

children actually increase the life span of women, not sure of men to be honest. Long as your not stressed out it can help you.

i don't know but if you have lots of kids you'll have people to visit you when you'll be old and ill, and that might help to live longer.
