If I always plan on using the set with cable, satellite, or for video games is it better to just go with a monitor over a TV, which will save me money?

What is the main difference between a monitor and a TV besides the lack of tuner? Are there still speakers or will I need to buy a home theater system or hook up speakers or what have you(I would like a nice home theater system anyway and if I'm saving money buying a monitor over a TV that money can go towards the speaker system?

You can save a little money buying a monitor. You can do more with the television. You just put a card in your computer that will interface with a television. The using a monitor for television is basically a bad idea. The monitor itself supports the graphics, but unless you are willing to use the processing power and software, you will end up with a lower resolution than you probably want. TV's are coming down in price. Wait a while before you decide.

A monitor, by definition, has no speakers or tuner. It might be more practicle for you to purchase a TV which has computer inputs. That way you will still have the tuner and speakers and you can add speakers later if you want.
