I'm 14 and redecorating my room. The thing is i love so many things i can't make up my mind on how to decorate. Any theme ideas? Or even ideas on how to organize my thoughts and pick a theme?

Pick one thing you really like that is either already in your room or that you want to buy for it. Choose your colors and your theme from that one object.

Keep in mind that for complete harmony in a room, you need to have 3 colors going: 1 dominant color, 1 medium color and one accent color. Make your favorite color the dominant one (use this as a paint color on the walls). Use the second color on the trim, the moldings, the baseboards. Use the 3rd color (the accent one) for curtains, throw pillows, paintings on the walls, etc.

You're 14. I don't know when you'll be able to redecorate your room again, so keep in mind that if you can't do it again for a couple of years or so, you might want to stay away from things a 14 year old likes. By the age of 16, 17, you'll have changed alot and won't like it if your room is 14ish..... Leave yourself room to grow in the room.

Let us know what you decide to do with your room.... Oh... it would've helped to know if you're a girl or a boy...

Either way, here is my color suggestion, no matter your sex: Brown, turquoise and white. This'll leave you lots of room to grow, even if you can't redo your room for 2 or 3 years.... I'd definitely stay away from any themes.... In a year or two, maybe even just a couple of months down the line, you'll find you're sick of the theme... Keep it simple and you'll be able to adjust accordingly.

Happy decorating.

Well, I can tell you what I would do. First, get some paper, sit down and try to think up different ways to rearrange your furniture. After you find one you like, get to rearranging! Have fun with it. Maybe you got some gift cards for Chrismas that you could use to buy some decorative things (ie: rug, curtains, wall mural, candles, artwork...you get the picture). I don't know what you like, so my theme suggestions might not work for you. Some that come to mind are: Beach, Jungle, Black & White, Music, Forrest). You could paint your furniture (of course make sure your parents approve). That's about all I can come up with at the moment. Good Luck! You have inspired me to want to go home and redecorate now! lol!

Think about what your flavor color is. do you love dramatic colors, earth colors. Do you like thing orderly or full of items. Do you simplicity or drama? Are you a girly girl? or sports, music, or some other hobby oriented? Then begin slowly choosing things you love. One good trick is when selecting items, make a choice and wait a couple of days to purchase, if you are still excited and can't stop thinking about the item. Then purchase it for your room. Good luck and have fun decorating!

I want you to go to a pharmacy and grab a few decorating magazines. Bring em home and flip through. Anything that you see that you like, cut it out and put it in an envelope. After you have gone through your magazines, you can review your snipping to get a sense of your design style. Next, head over to your closet. What colors are in there? That is your color scheme. You wouldn't wear em if they didn't look good, they'll look great on the wall. Not necessarily all of them (unless you like them all). Sometimes say your favorite gray sweatshirt could inspire a beautiful grey wall with cottony piny and mauve accents....or whatever.

Finally, write down your interests. Horseback riding, ballet, shuffleboard. Whatever. See what kind of memorabillia you have hanging around. Maybe you got a horseback riding patch from 4H, ballet slippers that don't fit anymore, a photograph of your team or class. Then, arrange like items together. All your horseback riding stuff could be arranged nicely on the bureau. (photos and badges in frames), then , maybe special items like ballet slippers or first riding helmet could be put in special shelving on an empty wall.

The trick is, not to trim anything out! You are your interests and to cut any of them out would be to deny who you are. you just need to be patient. Have a good eye and make your pieces work for you.

Good luck and I hope my examples make sense.
