Christians just assert their beliefs or defend them or offer ratioanl arguments for them.
The unbelievers seem offer mostly ridicule, insult, denial, profane epithets and such.

Unbelievers just say things like, your God is fake, you beleive it because you are an irratioanl moron, or you are just blindly following ignorant myths. These things are insults.

Interesting thing is , that is a suggested strategy by some thinkers and haters of religion, such as Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris or some group of unbelievers who call themselves Brights. Ridicule is used to try to shame people into silence, simply because most people do not want to be embarrased. It can be effective if people let it. I have no respect at all for the opinions of Mr. Dawkins and would debate him anyday.

I do not become offended at statements or inquiries at all unless I see that the person is not really asking but insinuating some sort of slur.
Ask all you want, I can give an acount for what I believe, very well.
For instance the link you put up, named god isimaginary, what is that but a insult to all our intelligences, without regard to facts. It is a drawn conclusion. We have drawn conclusions as well, but we try to offer them to you and present arguments for them, which any perosn has access to.
If you require or dare to say a person has to be a trained professional in several areas of research to know anything or else he cannot know anything that is ridiculousness and dangerous elitism. Everyman in any station of life has access to truth, throught his mind, before the arrival of modern technology. Modern science does not reveal truth it reveals data.

Tj in reply you seem like you are not talking to me, but some imaginary argument you have set up in your head where you think you are right. I have posted many things up here that demonstrate the logical fallacy and inherent dishonesty of professed atheism. In fact you exhibit a very clear example of it, with a lack of reading comprehension and reasoning ability, in my opinion. Because by all the things you say you show you have no knowledge of history of philosophy, epistemology, ontology or philosophy of science. You do not know the meaning of science or what it really is or what is its foundation, which are built on the axiomatic principles of rationalsim. If you did you would know that theism is the most rational position indeed. But you do not even know what rationalism is so how could I expect anything else? You probably don't even know what i am talking about and so will call this irrational as well, instead of questioning yourself. You are not a rationalist but an empiricist.

It might seem strange that those who deny God and His plan of salvation would even pay any attention to the thoughts of Christians. One would think that they would just avoid us "foolish" people completely.

But instead, they seem to have a vendetta, a compulsion to silence us. Maybe they are Theophobic (afraid of God). But then one must ask why they hate Jesus.

Here is what God says:

2 Cor 2:14-16

14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. 15 For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.
(from New International Version)

Time to ignore them and continue to be the "fragrance of life" for those who will be saved.

If you took some of the post from other sections into consideration as well I think you would find some of them very disturbing as well. White supremacist posts are sometimes laced with religious reference. These people are very offensive "Christians." In the religion section alone it might be true that some people post some very angry answers. I blame this on the church itself, however. It has become insane how many people I have personally known who have had terrible encounters with priests. The absolutely unforgivable behavior of the church in simply relocating these people to other locations is far more offensive to me than the rude blatherings of some justifiably angry people. If this is therapeutic for some of them and maybe makes them feel a little more empowered then I completely support their right to express those feelings. I really don't care if people don't like it. Christians shouldn't worry, they are suppose to just turn the other cheek and get a warm "Jesus loves me" fuzzy. There are rational beliefs as well as rational emotions, even if they are laced with anger.

I consider this a very rational response.

"Christians just assert their beliefs or defend them or offer ratioanl arguments for them."
I've never heard a rational argument for Xian beliefs. I'm still waiting for rational explanations of the whole religion thing.

No one is worse. No one better. You only think the Xians are nice because you happen to agree with what they are saying. If you look at their words from another persepctive Xians are rude and hostile with the "You're going to burn in hell" and "Atheists don't believe in god because they have no love in their hearts" comments. (As you say, not individually, but as a whole). Xians ridicule as much as "unbelievers" do. Again, you just don't see it because you agree with them.

Another thing I think you may want to consider: Just because we're not agreeing with you, does not make us rude. How are Xians allowed to assert their beliefs, but if someone else asserts a differing belief they're considered rude, profane and insulting?

If you say something false and sweeping like "God created everything" and we say "No god created anything". We've just put a flip side onto your comment. It's no more rude than what you said. It's just an opposite opinion.

Take a step back and really look at all the comments. Xians give as good as they get. Personally, I think the Xians are worse. But I must admit that is probably because I disagree with them on a fundemental level.

You will notice as you progress through life that "Wind blows loudest through an empty barn". Those that talk the loudest and attack others usually have nothing but an empty head.

One of the reasons that a certain religion is on the rise is that it offers absolute control to the man and none to the woman. This appeals to men of small minds and smaller ...... well, in truth this is just presumption on my part.

Hate speaks with a load voice, Love speaks must more softly.

I've never heard a christian with a rational argument to support their religion, so I'd love to see some support for your first line.

The sentiments expressed by non-believers may be insulting to you, but they are simply expressing truth. Just because you find a particular truth upsetting does not mean that it is not the truth.

My suggestion to you would be to boogie back to church and wallow in that support group if you feel the desire to have your beliefs validated.

Yahoo Answers is a forum in which other people can intrude with reports from the real world, so it might not be the best environment to find support for your delusion.

that's your opinion, for what it's worth.

If you care to show me a careful survey of a large sample of Q and A with statistical analysis showing a percentage of epithets and insults by believers vs. non-beleivers that supports your opinion we could talk about it some more.

Christians and other faiths are just as guilty of lack of civility as you claim is expressed by non-believers. All of the above accusations are equally true of believers. And I'm sorry, but I have NEVER heard a rational argument defending christian (or any other religious) belief. Please...let me hear one. No matter how hard you try, at some point any attempt at rationality breaks down with the whole "leap of faith " thing.

Much of the time, what believers find 'insulting and derogatory' is just a simple statement of fact that you find offensive because it is not what you dogmatically believe, though no offense is intended. If you happened to believe the moon was made of cheese as part of your faith, and I said, in fact, the scientific evidence doesn't support that, you would no doubt be offended that I cast aspersions on your belief....but the offense would be in your own mind that is non-accepting of evidence that doesn't support your belief system.

Most of the people who hang out here have strong opinions on religious belief....I do happen to be one of them. You can research my past answers and the majority are civil. I do respond in kind to ignorant or insulting questions from believers sometimes, but I try to do it with wit and humour. Dr. Dawkins or Sam Harris would make mince meat out of you in a debate my friend...I would love to see it.

Thanks for the thumbs down for my polite and reasoned response to your accusations......kind of proves my point, doesn't it?

EDIT
Your EDITS are becoming increasingly incoherent....you should really stop now as you ignorance is becoming painfully obvious. Now that isn't an insult...ignorant just means a lack of knowledge,or education on a subject, it doesn't mean you are stupid.
EDIT 2
Great, you know how to spell a lot of words that end in -ology. So do I. I bet you could even define a few of them if I gave you a minute to do a quick dictionary search

In spite of all your rambling and obvious annoyance at my answer (found a button, did I?), you have yet to prove your point that religionutties are more civil etc etc than atheists, other than offering...again....YOUR OPINION, in an increasingly rude arrogant and disdainful manner. Your disdain for higher education notwithstanding, it appears at least a partial one was wasted on you. However, getting a B- in "Introduction to Philosphy" doesn't make you a master-debater. You really should send your parents a cheque.

That is extremely false. I'm not an atheists but there are plenty of Christians who say things like I hope you go to hell and outcast those who don't believe. There are bad apples in every bunch. What do you call Christians who blow up abortion clinics. I don't support abortion but that doesn't mean you bomb a clinic. What do you call the Christians during the Crusdades, or Hitler who was Christian? You are a hypocrit. There are just as many ignorant hateful Christians as there are atheists so get over yourself.

Well, that's your opinion, but I have yet to see a rational response from anyone other than an "unbeliever" on this site.

Unfortunately, and we're well aware of this, rational responses are, in fact, considered ridicule to people of faith. It's the way it has always been.
