I'm getting a tattoo in the coming weeks and was curious as to whether it is better to get one on the inside of my ankle, or the outside. It's not going to be a huge tattoo, something simple and YES meaningful. I'm not asking about pain tolerance or whatnot, but information on that would be welcome. I just was wondering which is more the norm or looks better. Thanks!

tatts can go where ever you want them to but they are not seen very well on the inside of your leg or ankle. not to mention you will keep rubbing it on the inside more then on the outside. anything on the bone or tendons hurts more. so you want to put it somewhere there is some meat on you. the out line is the worst and if you get color it gets easier because it has numbed it from the pain of the out line. but i love tatts and think everybody should have at least one.

Really depends on what you want. I had my tattoo done on the inside of my left ankle (an orchid with stem measuring around 6 inches). I personally like it there because in my job, while a tattoo isn't openly frowned on, it might not be precieved favorably. Having it on the inside of the ankle makes it slightly less apparent at first.

I also like the fact that when I cross my legs, all of a sudden the tattoo is revealed. I find it a bit more subtle, and was therefore able to do a slightly larger design than I would have originally planned. But the location should be one that makes you happy and fits your lifestyle.

it depends on if you want it to been seen or not
if you do get it on the outside of your ankle other wise do the inside. I have a tattoo on my ankle but it goes across the front of my foot to the other side so I have it on both sides
I like it better on the outside and it doesn't hurt that bad I have 5 tattoos

Not trying to be "mom", but consider....

If you want to dress up, skirt and heels, do you want people to be staring at your ankle when your thirty (because they will, my cousin has one she got at twenty).

Your skin stretches in odd places when you have kids. Yes, even the foot/ankle. If you do get stretch marks or the skin loses any elasticity, that will affect the look of any tattoo anywhere.

Tattoo's are permanent. Do you want to look at sagging, wrinkled, tattoos when you are sixty?

...This being said, if you still want a tattoo, I suggest getting a fake (press on or henna) tattoo in the place you are thinking. If you can live with it for a week and still like it, go for it.

My personal preference would be the inside, so it could be more easily concealed if the need arose.

In my opinion, a tattoo would look better either on the outside or all the way around your ankle. Good luck.

I do not have a tattoo but have always wanted one and I always thought that I would get one on the inside of my ankle/lower leg for the simple reason that IF I needed it to be less obvious that would be a better place. I always wanted mine to be the Detroit Red Wings winged wheel. I am 59 now, though, and I am lucky if I remember to put earrings in! :o)

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

I have mine on the inside of my left ankle and love it. It is not too small and everyone can see it still. And has a lot of meaning to me, I have 3 butterfly's a large butterfly for myself and 2 small ones for my children that are fluttering around the large one. My kids think it is so cool that I have them represented on my body for life (plus if I should have more kids I can always add another one later). You are the only one who will know rather you want yours on the inside or outside trust your gut feeling on it. Best of luck with your new body art!
