I worked in an insurance broker for 6 months. It's an International (american and known!) company based in the middle east.( I'll make it short and to the point). I have a bank problems recently and didn't pay my loan for 4 months due to personal finacial problems. ( i informed my office also on what happend to me. But never asked for any assistance from them) Due to this problem, i was detained (jailed) until i pay the bank. After a day, i paid it and got off. The next day, when I arrived at the office and went directly to my desk...My manager and Vice President in Finance department called me. And told me that they are dissapointed on what had happend to me. And told me to go home and wait for the managements decision if they will retain my job. In other words, they are letting me go. I felt (what they did) that they're very unfair on that decision. I have a wife and kids. This xmas season was the worst thing that happend to me. I need comments please....Is it fair?

How can look for other jobs? Will they give me fair reference? Will they put that under confidentiality?

The company have every right to protect its interest. The insurance and investment companies are very strict on people they hired.

When you said you were jailed, was there any charge, the reason is that if they charge you then there will be a record. This will prevent you from getting a job in any companies that deals with money.

What you should do is this, I know it's hard, but for your family sake, you should call your old boss and discuss what had happen and explained that you have family to take care of and would like to get a good references from them. Most boss don't want to be a jerk so they might not disclosed anything that had happen to you.

unfortunately, it is not fair, but is legal. Many financial companies have certain things that must be maintained by the employees. payments are one of them. It is unusual for that to happen after the fact in the US, b/c that is usually done in the early stages before being hired. That prevents fraud. They believe that if you are financially desperate, you will steal from them.
