I asked a question about studying what people from Islamic relgion and culture believe, and the difference between the bible and the quaran and got some really different views.

from, you can't
to read both and take notes...

Is there something wrong with trying to understand what alot of people in the world believe and why they believe it?

I am not confused about my belief in Christ. Someone emailed me and asked if we could talk about our two religions. I just wanted to know how to talk with intelligence and apolgetics.

I am fully aware that they are different.

Not only is there nothing wrong with learning about other religions and cultures, but it is a very important thing to do. Especially a religion like Islam, which is so much in the media these days. It is important to understand the religion and the Muslim people, so that you are not misled by the actions of a few extremists who make it in the news. This is a religion followed by a billion people, and in order to understand these people, what is wrong with learning about their beliefs and practices?

You don't have to convert. I study every religion. It doesn't mean I want to convert to every religion. But I just find it interesting and enlightening to see how other people view their lives and God, and so on. When I meet these people of other religions, I can relate to them better. And there is a greater chance for peace if we understand each other.

If you'd like to read the Qur'an, I recommend getting the Pickthall translation called "The meaning of the Glorious Qur'an." It is written with respect and understanding of the tradition, and contains good explanatory introductions to the chapters, and footnotes.
In my class on Islam, we read the book called "An Introduction to Islam" by Frederick Matthewson Denny. It was very informative.
I'm currently readings some books by Yahiya Emerick, who is a convert to Islam and so he writes from a Muslim perspective. His books are good if you are interested in seeing how Muslims see their own tradition. His book on Muhammad is good.

It sounds like if you took the second advice ('to read both and take notes') that you would get a much greater understanding of the differences than if you read what someone else has discovered. It also seems like a systematic way of comparing the two texts, which is what you are looking for.

Or were you really expecting for someone to do massive amounts of research for you and post their results to a Yahoo! Answers question from a stranger?

Yes!
A believe is not comparable. Because it is utter rubbish to believe anything you cannot proof!
So you can lay any meaning you like into a believe. And noone cares, because, anyone believes something else!
So you believe in a guy crucified somewhere, ok, some others do so, even, you believe in a guy falling into trance somewhere in Arabia, ok. But thats it, then!
Anyone will fill the fine details with his or her own likes!
Thats because it is called believe!
Or in other words a lie to children, how the world works!
It has nothing to do with anything logic.
Believing is being wrong right from the very start of it.
Proof, and you are right. Believe, and in no matter of time you are leading a concentration camp where the other ones are incarcerated, that do not believe exactly what you believe.

If you go to the website I told you- www.islam-in-focus.com you can find any info you need on Islam or Mohammad. The guy that host this site has 2 earned doctorates in religion, and one of them is a Ph.D in Islamic Studies from Oxford., the other is a D.Min from Luther Rice Seminary. He is one of the most sought after experts on religion.

The bible is an inspired collection of letters/books given to man. The quaran is a book written by an Islamic prophet not from God

Wow, the jerks are really at it today, huh?
Must be too much time on their hands because of the holidays.

There's nothing wrong in trying to understand someone else's beliefs. I applaud you for it.

The link at the bottom might help you.. it's a comparison between the bible and the qur'an.
