I asked a question earlier about God and books and so on, and a few people answered that books, movies, TV, etc. are distractions to studying the Bible and spending time with God. Which is an answer I can understand and respect.

However...if that's the case, why is there entertainment that caters specifically to Christians? Books, music, movies, and so on. I realize that some of it is for evangelical purposes, but not all of it is--much is there pretty much for Christians to enjoy. Wouldn't this be detrimental rather than helpful?

I don't think so-in my opinion its other ways to remind you about God-I think they are great. I think they can be an inspiration to get back to God-I admit nothing will substitute for reading the bible and prayer, but I have no problem with other mediums of study.

Good question.

There are those who believe that you should not waste any time on movies, books, fiction. This would include Evangelical movies, books, fiction etc.

The problem is school; you have to read for schooling, don't you?

My own argument about reading fiction, seeing movies, etc is:

As a Christian (follower of Christ, etc) I want my children to be able to discern right from wrong. If we watch Harry Potter, what is bad from these books movies? What is GOOD from these movies?

This takes a lot of patience and hard work but in my opinion (again, this does not reflect all Christians), I would rather have my children be able to reason and exercise critical thinking than sheltered from the world.

I don't believe you got sound answers. Books ,music etc. can be used for evil yet turned around and used for good and vice versa. There is more to it than just believing in God. The devil believes and look where he is.
It is fine to have your head in the clouds but keep your feet firmly planted on the ground for it is there our brothers and sisters walk and some in need of help.

I think that God is bigger than that. That He gave us laughter and enjoyment. That he gave some us the gift of writing, and some singing. Our talents are to be shared so, that we can have fun.

Find a good book, not necessarily the Good Book, and relax. Watch a fun movie with your kids or family. Grow with each other and in Christ.

Have fun in Jesus Name!!

Studying the Bible is just something you learn to do after a time, and make a habit of.
The other stuff is part of life too, as long as you really "know" what you're watching, and if it places a positive or negative impact on your life.

Some of it is detrimental and some of it is beneficial and for that reason it is important that we know the Word of God, the Holy Bible.

Not sure what your question was ealier, but I love books that have to do with real life. I enjoy missionary stories of people who grew closer in the Lord, and have struggles like me. It helps me in my relationship with God.

the bible describes "wolves" in sheeps clothing, in other words, people that seem like good christians are actually evil and money-driven. we have to be careful, who we listen to. many people nowadays prefer to listen to "televangelists" such as Joel Osteen rather than studying the bible>
