I just want to see illegal immigration stopped, I'm not after people's property, just the law upheld, so that in the future
there's less of it.
The real remedy for illegal immigration is going to be the evolution of other countries into more modern, functional models whereby they produce enough to support themselves reasonably, as well as participate at some level in global trade.
If, instead of bolting for the borders, people stood fast and decided it was time to build their country up into something more
successful, chances are there'd be a lot less of it. But, that means people have to get SMART about how they're running their own countries, and we have to get smart about seeing to it that our borders get enforced, as well as our immigration laws. I say 'let people take their crap with them' when they go home, that way they have something to show for their efforts etc., along with their money.
Being economically successful isn't something that is, or should be, confined solely to americans. But, sharing the wealth doesn't mean that we're somehow morally or economically obligated to pick up everyone else's slack, either. Darwin's a real bastard,
and the rich do it to the poor, the smart do it to the stupid, and the stupid do it to themselves, that's kind of how it works...and, you
can get all Jesus-y about it if you want, but the bottom line is, when you've got 6.6 billion people, and food enough for four, somebody's gonna miss dinner. And, that really sucks. But,
it leaves hellish choices, do we undermine our country to help the world's poor, and end up being poor ourselves, or slam the door on some really screwed-up countries whose major ambition seems to be burning it all to the ground?
I kind of think of it in terms of the drunken, violent, dependent relative. At some point, you have to separate yourself from the dysfunction in order to preserve yourself, or get dragged along for the ride, because no matter what you do for em, it won't fix the basic problem that they haven't decided to stand up and really help themselves, and they then learn to be dependent on you. That's why they say 'dont feed the homeless', and 'dont feed the bears', because once YOU have become the focal point for fulfilling everybody's needs, including the big, clawed, furry ones,
it's just gonna get ugly when you run out of doughnuts.
To avoid a Big Ugly in our own country, labor laws should be observed, and a new strategy needs to come forth on how to rationally help countries that are chronically down on their luck.
But, there's no law that says people can't come to visit, and learn, and maybe earn a buck, and then go home and figure out how to do it for themselves. We're not splitting the atom, here, one brick on top of the other, start businesses, build roads, build hospitals, keep it civil, keep it peaceful, keep it honest, and then EVERYone can have a Wal-Mart! Woohoo! LOLOLOL
