I have a Revlon as well. It works well for me. I have very curly and thick hair. I have not been able to achieve pin straight hair yet; however, it has the ability to make it shiny and the only thing other than straight hair left would be the wave at the ends (which looks cute and flippy). The ability of the straightener also depends on what type of hair you have and what style you wish to achieve.
I also suggest you experiment and read up on the various products that can assist you. These products can protect your hair as well as improve and lengthen the results of the straightener. Examples of products that are affordable and available in most stores are Herbal Essence Dangerously Straight Mousse, Dove Cream and L'Oreal Paris Hot Cream for straightening hair. You can use gels, creams, mousses, sprays, shampoos and waxes (just to name a few). I also suggest that you take care to not overuse your straightener and to not use it on a high setting unless absolutely necessary in order to protect the hair. Use a clarifying shampoo if you find you are getting build up from the products. Use conditioner on the ends of your hair to protect them. You may also decided to use a leave in conditioner to protect it. Get a trim to get rid of the dead ends and to promote healthy growth in order to maximize the appearance and health of you hair. You can find examples of the range and variety of Revlon straighteners in a search. There are also various reviews for them.
