In the state of Ohio, do you have to apply for a marriage license in the same county in which the marriage will be taking place? For instance, if your wedding is taking place in Franklin County, do you need to go to the Franklin County Courthouse to get your marriage license or can you get your license from the Delaware County Courthouse?

I'm in Butler County.

Since you are a resident of Ohio, you get the marriage license in the county in which you live. This allows you to be married anywhere in the state of Ohio.
Only non-residents must get the marriage license in the county in which they will be married.

In Wisconsin we had to apply for our license in the county that one of us lived in. It didn't matter that we were getting married in a different county. We did have to put the venue and county on our license though. We also had a time limit, no more than 15 days before the wedding ceremony and a 5 day wait for the license.

Call your courthouse and ask what the law is for you.

I think this is pretty much all across the board, not necessarily from state to state, but you I believe need to get the license in the county in which you live... whether you get married in that county or not is up to you. I did it here in Florida- got my license in a different county then I had the ceremony in and it was all good (well, going through a divorce now, so apparently it wasnt THAT good!) LOL

You need to just go to the courthouse and tell them where the wedding will be taking place, and they should be able to tell you if you can get it there, or in the other county. I believe you have to get it for the county you'll be married in, but it could be for the county that you apply for. I don't think it matters what county, just that you get one.

I know in Virginia you get a license in the county you live regardless of where you have the ceremony. Call your local Clerk's Office and they should be able to tell you for sure!

Call the clerks office in your county - Their Marriage license division, and a clerk can assist you.
