Okay...I have always believed that you should never wait for someone else to do things for you. If its something you want, work hard until you can obtain it. I believe I have my priorities straight. I have always had my own place, my own car and have been able to pay my own bills. Is it wrong for me to be this way? I have sisters that depend on men for everything...including happiness. I watch them struggle, and often have to help them out. I have 4 sisters. I try to do the total opposite. I am a single mother who works full-time, and i'm in school pursuing a degree in Nursing. I dont consider myself a man hater. I just dont have a man at the moment because I am taking some time out of the dating scene.
My question is: Why do guys run away from Independent women?

The USA is all about independence, so no it's not wrong or a sin to be independant. You go girl!
We don't need others to do stuff for us unless we're quadreplegic, or so ill we can't walk or do stuff. It's wise to have help when needed.
I admire you keep it up!

I think that some women who are "independent" also put out a vibe of " I don't need you" . Everyone (including men) likes to feel wanted. There's nothing wrong with being independent or taking yourself out of the dating scene, and you should never depend on another human being to be the sole source of your happiness. Just be careful that you are not putting out a subliminal message that will ultimately push a romantic interest away.

If you worry about that, I think you're not as independent as you think you are. Keep taking care of yourself and don't change yourself to get a man. So many women put men first and they end up with the most awful ones. Just read the questions on here and you will see. Be strong and you will scare all the weak men away, but you will get a first rate one eventually!

Girl, I'd like to know the same thing. I am only 19, but I am very independent and strong-willed and have goals, and for some reason that is a turn off to guys. I won't apologize for not being a "Jessica Simpson clone" where I play myself down and act dumb to gain a man's attention or affection. I think that guys are intimidated by an independent woman, and any guy that is too weak to accept that you have your own independent life goals and dreams isn't the right guy for you anyway. Good for you and you sound very responsible and like you have your head on right! Any guy in his right mind would like a strong, independent woman such as yourself! no matter how strong, how independent the woman is, she should or she must act like a little girl in front of a man.it's the rule of the game. i mean, i admire you. but relax lady,just for a while. take off your mask, show people what do you really want. women need men just like how much they need us.i understand why u look down upon those dependent women sometimes. i do too. your life seems pretty well, but you are just using studying, working to cover the vacancy of men.im not a guy, i cant really answer you question. but my advice is, try to be a little bit dependent some time. you'd probably get more and better than you expected!

Alot of guys run away from independent women cuz they aren't that way,they feel if they get into a relationship with an independent woman then they wont have anything to prove as to be a real man. Alot of men want to support their woman and not for their g/f,wife to work,I hope this helps.

The last thing I want is some chick who is looking for a man to pay her bills! I like women who have goals and aspirations in life and who aren't dependent on a guy taking care of them.
You must be meeting the wrong type of guys!

the problem is that, even though they may say they hate when a woman depends on them for too much, they like it. it makes them feel like they have some sort of power--people like being needed. if you want to find a man who will be attracted to a woman like you, look at the histories of guys and see who they typically date (independent or needy).

You go girl. Being independent is a wonderful thing and if guys dont like you for that then they can go and marrie someone who wont do anything and they have to do everything for them. You will find that one guy who appriciates you for who you are.
