Both bleeders, but can take a beating. Cooney, I think had more style & stamina, but Quarry could give as good as he got, so after they wiped off all the blood and the swelling went down, I'd have to say...... Cooney would be the face they found. Great question by the way, i wonder how many people here know who these guy's were or are.
+ Cooney v Holmes, Holmes was no pushover!
+ Clooney v Ken norton was no tapp dancer either.
- Quarry had ten years on Cooney ( a year oldern' me)
- Quarry didn't have the knack for protecting his head, thus the cuts, dimencia and eventual death.
+ or - Cooney 13 rounds with Holmes
- Think maybe Foreman did some damage to Cooney, as he did Ali?

Toughguy - Urbanfossil is on the money. I'd take Quarry by a decision. Both men could take a punch, although I'd give the slight edge to Quarry in that department.

Jerry Quarry. He fought some of the best of the 70's and at least, held his own.Gerry Cooney's best fights were against faded contenders, and Young was giving him problems before he stopped him.Jerry would either win on decision or late round tko.

Quarry would have kicked Cooney's ass.. Cooney was soft. If Quarry wasn't a bleeder he could have gone longer with Ali and others.

Jerry Quarry. He had the misfortune of fighting in one of the great Heavyweight eras of all time.
