I was thinking about religions and wondering which one I should be in but then I thought to myself that seems like the followers of a religion worship it...God is not Christian, Islam, Jewish, Satanist and whatever religion there is. God is who we are supposed to worship, not religion. All the religions claim that their way is the only way and if you don't follow it you'll go to hell, so in a sense they're acting like God right?

This world would be a lot nicer if we just worshipped God and not religion...

Sorry...what I really meant was do you believe in God or in your religion. People seem to fear their religion and not fear their God. They fear that if they don't do certain things they will be condemned. I know that religion is a way of life to connect with God. But some people are just too fanatic about their religion and they think they're so right and have a one way ticket to God's kingdom...in a way they pronounce themselves righteous in God's eyes without even fearing what God thinks. I don't know how to say it...I'm just a confused 24 year old girl trying to find God. I used to be a Christian but I don't believe that Jesus is the Messiah anymore...BTW I'm thinking of converting to Judaism...cause I'm still waiting for my Messiah and so are they!

Sometimes I think I try to believe in religion and not in God, so I remind myself to think of God first and then religion...

Religion is defined as:
Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

Don't confuse God with religion. God is and religion is how God is worshiped.

Yes some religions believe their way is the only way...but not all; the Catholic Church believes all are the children of God. This link may help explain the position of the Catholic Church.

The way that I figure it is this: be helpful to your fellow human beings, don't kill or steal, realize that there is a higher power, and that's it. I call it "My Religion". It has come to my attention recently that people who are extremely religious (Islamic extremists, Christian radicals) are all idiots. If everyone was right about going to hell if you do not follow a certain religion, then we are ALL going to hell. So, therefor, no one is correct. Just live your life the way you want, but make some sort of contribution to the live-lie-hood of your planet and you should be good to go. Is there a god, yes, there has to be some higher power. Is his name God or Buddha or Yahweh?? I do not know and I do not care. I just try to respect the resources given to me.

Congratulatons on figuring that one out.

I don't know how old you are, but rest assured that far, far too many people live the whole of their lives without being able to make that distinction.

The difference that you have identified is, at least to me, the difference between religion and spirituality, and that is the title of this particular page.

One of my biggest problems with the concept of organized religions is precisely the one that you identify - that each proclaims their way is the only way, and that therefore too many adherents are willing not just to die for their belief but to kill in order to prove it. And yet, all religions purportedly have at their core the same belief - that you are to respect all other persons equally.

That's why I call myself a Deist - a believer in God but not in any religion.

I don't like the word religion. It is such a cold term. Man's way of reaching out to God which will never work.

I worship the Living God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob - the Trinity. This is not my religion. This is my relationship - it is personal - Jesus knows me like no other. He is always there. He loves me with the most powerful love, for He laid down His life for me. Religion cannot do that. Only the One True Living God Yahweh.

I thank you for that Father - You are so awesome and I praise You for Your wonderful ways.

Growing in His grace....

well i'm agnostic and i agree with what you're saying about religion and that people act like god and that religion shouldn't be worshipped however as an agnostic how am i supposed to worship a higher being if i don't have enough evidence to prove or disprove that a higher being exists or doesn't exist

A religion which worships itself cannot worhip God, for it would be worshiping a false idol, like Hilary. Religion, by definition is formalized worship of God (or for the deluded, gods). Personally, I am a follower of Jesus the Christ, which includes, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. YBIC

YES !
You have the right idea, that is why many are using "a higher being or power" But never fail to establish the LAW. That is where the religions became perverted and corrupt.

I worship God....... All who come to God in The Way He prescribes are of The Church..... There is only one Church. and you do not have to follow any man invented "religion" To be of The Body of The Church. No individual can make up their own way to God.

There are many who "think" they know a way to God. But unless they KNOW God, and have His promise, they are lost.

I know God has assured my Salvation. I do not need a man invented "doctrin" to give me some false sense of security... my security is from God personaly. Because I went to God in The Way He prescribes.
