My Sony TV is Possessed! Recently it turns itself off. I have checked for timers, unplugged for 5 minutes manufacture suggestion. I believe there is a frequency that is similar to what the remote control is set to and is turning off the TV. There is absolutely no consistancey in the turn off patern. It can go for hours even days with turning off or you can turn it on and it will turn off several times in a row. I have had no tech look at this problem yet, however that may be the answer. Any one had a similiar problem or do you know what the promblem is?

Assuming you don't have set up a sleep timer,
It may be a fan problem. The TV overheats and shuts itself off to protect the circuitry.

Turn on the TV and listen for the fan. If you never listen to the fan, it may be busted.

Simple test for frequency settings: Tape the front of the IR receiver, so it can't receive any IR commands (you will not be able to use your remote either though..). If the TV shuts-off again, then your IR receiver is OK.

Well if it <> like it wants to start up, then it must be in the Power supply or Horizontal sweep (IF it's a rear projection TV made before 2006) A lot of these TV sets got bad solder connections that just needed resoldering... Some required new power regulators... BUT.... IF it's a NEWER TV...and it has FANS on it that run when you turn it on, THEN you need to replace the lamp in it..... A model number off the back of the TV set helps me to be more CONCISE with my answer.
