Nope. You missed it entirely. It is the goodness of God that leads to repentence (Romans 2:4). He loved the world enough to die on the cross for everyone's sins, so that we would not have to go to hell for the things we have done wrong. That's how much He loves you and me.

II Peter 3:9 says, the Lord "...is longsuffering (extremely patient) toward us, (and He's) not willing that anyone should perish (go to hell), but that all should come to repentance (come to Jesus Christ)."

He wants everyone to be saved and to know His goodness. He is clear that if anyone refuses His Son Jesus, that they have condemned themself (decided for themself to go to hell). Here's the passage for that:

"He that believes on him (Jesus Christ) is not condemned: but he that does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." (John 3:18)

Of course, a lot of people these days are predetermined to ignore what the Bible says, and to think the worst about God, so that they can do whatever they want to do. It's easier to slander God than to live responsibly and humbly before Him.

There is a wrath that is coming from God. There is an eternal damnation that many will be thrown into, and it will be an eternal torment (anyone going into it will never come back out). But this is reserved for God's enemies, the people who insist upon being against Him and being His enemy. Jesus said that "you are either for me, or against me." There is no in-between.

I think you should seek different places to hear the word of God. I agree 100% with you that many churches try to scare you into believing and I hope that Jesus wouldn't agree with that low tactic.

When I go to my church(Catholic), I find answers to questions of how I should proceed in life to make the world a better place. It's the time when I can reflect on and feel thankful for all the blessings I have been given. When I leave mass, I feel truly uplifted.

If you don't feel comfortable in the Christian faith learn about the way other religions worship and see if anything "fits". I tried many other faiths until I found the church and pastor that I felt gave my soul what it was looking for.

Seek and you shall find.

God does not NEED anything from us. He loves us unconditionally- that's why there's Heaven. If we don't accept the invitation we can't expect a seat at the table. There are only 2 options- God or no God. If we aren't comfortable with love and all the good and precious gifts He bestows upon us- then hell shouldn't scare you. If you feel guilty, it's because you know you aren't living up to your fullest potential---
When you know God and His Son, Jesus, you can't help but worship Him. You can't fake worship. True worship of God is the most amazing high there is. God bless you Dahlia-

This is a great question. However, if you think about it, you'll realize it is just plain ol' man guilt-tripping you. The men who wrote the Bible. The preachers who threaten you with Hell if you don't pay your 10% tithe. The "televangelists" (biggest Yuck of 'em all) who just want your money. God's not doin' this...just the greedy men. And, since God gave us free will, he's just gonna let us dig our own graves, so to speak.

Just for reference, God didn't write the Bible. Jesus' disciples wrote the Bible. Also, it's not God speaking at your sermon on Sunday.

Just because you're in church does not mean that every word that comes out of the pastor's mouth is from the lips of God.

I believe in God, but I don't go to church. I don't believe that to be a "good christian" you have to go to a church.

If you want to know more about the Bible without feeling like you're getting a guilt trip, try reading the Bible on your own and forming your own opinions of God and Jesus.

religion and their leaders made up this scare. Not God. He is our creator and he doesn't threaten with hell. All he is saying that he is our father, he want us yo listen to him and do what he says because he knows what is best for us. Don't you agree. He made us. He then said if you don't do the right thing, you are no use to anyone or to him. You will be hindering the righteous ones. Why not get rid of you. I think that is Justice.

Hell means grave not a place of torment Churches have twisted the truth and have misrepresented the bible.

God dose not "scare" or compel any one into "believeing" in Him... If you are scared it is because you know enough to know that what you are doing or have done, is enough to get you to someplace you do not want to even think about...so you deny the existance of God and Heaven and hell so you can pretend you will never be punished for the wrong you know you have done...

God dont damn anyone to hell mankind dose a good enogh job on their own by their own actions. Here is a link to a page on my web site I call God Damn It.... take a look if you like. http://mikevanauken.pages.web.com/outreach/id21.html

That isn't a Biblical teaching. That is a doctrine of men. The Bible teaches us that "Hell" is simply the common grave of mankind. The condition of the dead is described in the book of Ecclesiastes the ninth chapter. It tells us that the dead are not conscious of anything. They have no sensation or feeling. When you die you simply cease to exist. Don't let some preacher tell you what the Bible says. Read it for yourself and find out what the truth really is.
