I have a small clock collection where some of the clocks have the old "radium painted dials" - is this a safety risk at all? Thanks for whatever you can provide.

Not as far as I can tell.

Most of the radiation we recieve each year comes from natural sources; how high an elevation we are, do we dwell in a granite house, how many airplane trips do we take per year. Radiation exposure drops off steeply with distance. The amount of radium in the dials is very small. I would not worry, and I also would't place one next to the bed, either.

;-)

They are fine unless you eat them. And if you did eat them, that would lead to more problems than the radium itself.
