If it is, what would you think of a $30,000 bonus for volunteers upon honorable completion of their enlistment time, but if you wait to be drafted no bonus?

Yes, I think that the draft will be reinstated with the next year, or two.

Sounds like a plan. I already got my bonus and served my time. I would go back if Uncle Sam needed me.

Remember this though: We have not had a draft since Vietnam. But prior to that no heavy US military action went without one since the War of 1812

Drafts into War:
1)1812
2)Mexican-American War
3)Civil War(both sides)
4)Spanish War
5)WW1 and 2
6) Korea
7) Vietnam

So, in the last 40 years America's govt has been content with our troop strength and their thinking has been the US Military is a precison weapon. They have failed to see that GPS guided bombs do not win areas of conflict. The ground troops do. No war will ever be won by air power alone. Need the troops to hold the crater filled areas.

Thanks

Only if we engage another country in war. Then, yes, that's very possible.

As for the bonus, you can get $20,000 for enlisting in 1 of the 10 most depleted National Guard MOS's (plus a 6 year enlistment, of course). That's not bad. I'd say a $2,000 bonus would be more plausible for draft volunteers.

They are considering recruiting non-citizens to volunteer in exchange for a fast track to citizenship. Don't think that's going to go over well since Lulac is already complaining and would show a great sign of weakness for this country.

It's a tough call. They have in the past drastically cut education funds for college in order for many to basicly have to join the service if they ever hoped to get an education. I'm sure they will try other means first before they reinstitute the draft.

If a draft occurs in the US it will be imposed by Democrats - over the objections of the military - for 'social engineering' purposes.

There is no need for a draft to increase the number of people on active duty.

No way, the draft caused pandemonium in the 60's, and the fighting force it produced was not as good of quality as a volunteer professional army. If the army needs more soldiers, it will increase its incentives, not conscript its citizens.

I really don't think a draft will happen . Another country of reasonable military capacity would have to declare war on the USA .

the draft is already to go. Ever since President Carter brought in the Selective Service act the stage has been set for it..
here is an article that addresses your question.

There will be no draft. Our military leaders say we are doing a good job as it is, and they don't want to pollute the ranks with people who don't want to defend freedom.

Nahh...recruitment numbers are coming up. They are loosing up requirements so people that were not previously qualified will now be. Serious draft talks will be a few years off if at all.
