I got my braces about 3 days ago, and at first, it didn't hurt that much, but now theres something, I think its the crown, scratching the inside of my mouth. And is forming 5 little small cankersores. What will help relieve the pain and heal the sores?

there is some discomfort associated with braces but you should never have open sores, definatly consult your dentist. But, until then brace wax works great. You can buy it anywhere like walmart, pharmacy etc. It can be molded to create a barrier between irritating areas and your skin! Good Luck!

I have worked for an othodontist for 17 years and yes people do develope little sores inside their months in the begining of treatment. If you dont have some wax you should get some. Number two put some salt in the palm of your hand and with 3 fingers pick up as much salt as you can put this into a warm tumbler of water. Rinse with this solution 2-3 times a day. The ambasol will also help. As far as the teeth themselves being sore if you chew sugarless gum after each appointment this will help with the soreness. Just be patient and it will get better take whatever you take for a headache like advil or tylenol. Whatever you do dont stop brushing because they are sore it is very very important to keep them very clean. (teeth and gums). good luck

Colgate makes this stuff called Orabase, there are two kinds. There is this one version of it that is like Orajel....works pretty good, but it didn't really do it for me when I got the sores at first from my braces. However, the other version of the stuff has these q-tip looking things (green things on each end) and some stuff in a little tiny bottle that would almost remind you of superglue. It's really easy to use. It more or less seals off the sore and I was able to even eat with it on. It feels a little wierd (almost like when you get superglue on your finger), but nothing bad. Instructions are very easy...hardest part is holding your mouth open while it dries. It saved me on the sores...the wax didn't do me a bit of good.

I actually even told my orthodontist about it after I had tried it and he is reccommending it to his other patients.

Get use to it love. I had braces. The orthodontist usually supplies you with some wax to cover the brackets if there digging into the side of your mouth. I have scars from mine. I think you can go out and buy some wax to put on them as well. Take an Advil when it begins to hurt, I know it's so painful. But hang in there, you'll be so use to your braces after a while you won't even notice they are there.

Braces do take a little getting used to. I had mine for 14 months and the first few days are the worst. My orthodontist gave me little sticks of wax to cover any sharp spots, but I rarely had to use it. I know it's not fun, but the best thing might just be to wait it out for a little while. It's a big change getting braces so give your mouth some time to adjust all the newness. Good luck.

See your orthodontist and make him fix whatever is scraping you. That isn't normal. Remember it is important to brush you teeth, but if you over brush that could also cause irritation, even using the wrong toothpaste. See your doc, and go from there. In the meantime, rinse with some salt water. Sea salt is the best.

Talk to your braces dentist - you've got something misconfigured and need to have it adjusted.

Braces done properly shouldn't cause canker sores... not good.

They do invariably cause a smidgeon of pain though...
