thanks much for help with this. at the moment i'm using clotrimazole (prescription). tried lamisil for a while, didn't work. Also... is it all right to switch between medications?

you try to get an appointment with your gp for this over the holidays!

the walk-in doctor i saw was very conservative and wouldn't put me on an oral antifungal because there's a slim chance of liver damage. web info suggests that with either severe or widespread cases that's the way to go, but...

he's old-school, and not a specialist (didn't agree with me that you can get ringworm from some source other than cats and dogs; i know - from webmd, actually :) - this isn't true).

just wondered if anyone else had encountered this and knew from personal experience if

1) i could put clotrimazole on healthy tissue without ill effects as it's nearly impossible for me to reach just the affected areas (have had some help these days, but won't soon), and

2) whether i could switch back to the lamisil after a few days with the clotrimazole/corticosteroid combo - no longer need the steroid as inflammation not so much a concern and my skin is drying out.

I think it would be ok to apply to large area. Don't switch between the 2 medications because then you won't know which one is working.
Make sure you apply antifungal products in the morning and at night—ideally after a shower or bath. Reapply the product after activities such as swimming or exercising, as it may no longer be present in amounts that would kill the fungi. If the condition fails to clear up in four weeks, stop using the product and see a physician.

It's a fungal infection. Continue to put the clotrimazole on it. After the symptoms have gone, continue to apply the medication for another two weeks.

Sometimes the doctor has to prescribe antibiotics for the ring worms.
