Been thinking a lot of the afterlife lately. My brother is in a coma and we are thinking of taking him off life support since he is brain dead.
He was in pain when he got his new pancreas and kidneys, but I wonder will it be painful when he goes from one life to whatever is next?

I'm sorry about your brother.

But at least since he's incapable of feeling any pain, he won't feel any pain. That much is certain.

Eccl. 9:10
All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol.

Eccl.9:5
The living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.
Ps. 146:4
His spirit goes out he goes back to his ground in that day his thoughts do perish
Ezek 18:4
the soul that is sinning-it itself will die

I hope this helps a little. I do not think one gos to heaven after death. I personally find more comfort knowing that they are not looking down at us and seeing how much pain we are in when they go..
There is always the hope of the resurrection
Acts 24:15
I have hope toward God that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous
John 5 : 28,29
Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice[the voice of Jesus]and come out'

God bless you and your family during such a trying period in your lives.
My thought will be with you.

I'd like to think that it won't hurt. We'll know at one point, I guess, whether or not it hurts, but by then it'll be too late to tell anyone. Being taken off life support seems like a subtle and easy way to go. For a couple of minutes or days, he'll have only himself to his thoughts, not being able to tell you he loves you or say he's sorry for something he did years ago... but I would feel as if I was being a burden to be kept alive, and I'm sure he is cognizant of this. It's ironic. Pulling the plug is such a humane thing to do in that situation. I wish you and him love and luck. I wonder... will we dream?

Depends on the death. And there is no afterlife. That's a horrible thought. Who would want to exist for eternity? How boring.

I do know that fear is one of the first things to go during the process of death. So even if he's in pain he won't fear it.

If your wealthy, it hurts like a SOB! if your poor and have led a horrible laboring life, its a welcome.

Your brothers memories will be in a great place. I am 100% positve that journey will be pain free.

depends on how they die i think.

i think burning to death would hurt.

however dying in your sleep probably not.

as for your brother i can almost be 100% positive the moment u stop helping him live and let him die it will be painless. i dont blame you for thinking that, if i was in a coma and brain dead i would hope people would let me pass on too.

Dying sucks but death is no big deal!

I have yet to hear a single person that has died come back and say BOY THIS IS HORRORIBLE!

In fact no one has come back and said OH BY THE WAY THERE IS A GOD! Must mean THERE IS NO GOD!

Hypothermia I've heard isn't too painful. Maybe uncomfortable for a while, but the you just get numb and crazy.

I symphatize with you for your brother. You must think that all will pass through this stage and whatever it might be, they are going back to their creator. You can pray for him.

According to near death experiencers death isn't painful-many of them aren't even initially aware that they have died.
