Does anyone know where I can find things like eyeglass chains, clips and cases for children? I have had no problems finding accessories for adults, or even teenagers, but my 6 year old is getting her first pair of glasses today, and she needs a chain for them. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, I don't mean to be snotty, but if the eye doctor had the stuff I was looking for, I wouldn't have posted this question. I have searched all of the vision centers in my area, and nobody has kid accessories.

OK, betsy....you may be an eye doctor, but do you have kids?? I mean really!! She's 6! Things happen! If she looks down and her glasses fall off, I don't want them falling to the floor and getting stepped on. They fit just fine, but sometimes, it is possible for glasses to inadvertantly fall off. Apparently, the schooling for obtaining work in your field didn't require alot of common sense.

Go to a girlie store - like Claire's. [accessory store for girls]

http://www.claires.com/

They have some really awesome girlie/princess sparkle eye glasses cases, and chains for glasses. Also, she could use some of their cool stronger necklaces as glasses chains.

Make sure you buy her 2 pairs - pink and purple? - to "match" outfits [but also as backup in case one gets lost/broken

You can also get her a cool girlie purse and let her use the cellphone holder as her eyeglasses holder!

I have also seen some really cool accessories on ebay - and if you want to get craft with her you could help her design and sew your own! Walmart sells Barbie fabric!

Also, in a pinch for now get an awesome pair of those giant girl shoe laces [the glitter ones] - she is small enough that she could use it as a "chain"!

Remember to get her teachers to take off glasses or the chain for recess. Any type of chain could be hazardous with monkey bars and you don't want her to get upset by breaking her new glasses the first week she has them!

I'm wondering why a 6 year old would need a chain for her glasses?

Typically chains are used for things like reading glasses for older people who use them from time to time throughout the day and want to keep track of them or by sunglass wearers who might be taking the glasses on or off when coming in or out of doors. This isn't generally what a 6 year old would be doing with glasses. If a child is assigned part time wear with glasses, generally the non-wearing times are active enough that one would not want the child wearing the glasses around the neck. They'd get ruined in no time at all. Mostly, children are told to put their glasses in a case when they aren't being worn on the face. Your eye doctor or eyewear dispensary should be able to provide you with a suitable case.

The eye Dr. will have all of that stuff for them. They will give her a case to keep them in too. You should ask if they can put temple cables on them. That's when the little piece that goes behind the ear, completely wraps around, holding them on much better, so they won't just fall off. They also help to keep them on more securely so they won't slip down the nose, forcing the child to look over their glasses instead of through them. But make sure to ask if the glasses you choose can have them put on, because not all frames are compatible. My son has been wearing glasses since he was 3, and they really help.

I saw the cutest eye glass rests at Walmart. They were the shape of animals and made of wood. My 12 year old daughter has glasses and she has a tiny purse shaped case that was purchased at the eye doc but I have seen them at Walmart also. You could try one of the accessory stores like Claires in your local mall. I know for active sports where they have the thick strap to keep glasses from coming off during sports, they have those at sporting goods stores. I hope this helps!! Good Luck!

We got ours at the same place we got the glasses. They should give her a case when they give her the glasses. Then you'll probably be able to buy chains or sports bands and such from the same place you get the glasses. If not, try contacting a pediatric eye doctor.

ETA:
Have you tried SPECIFICALLY *PEDIATRIC* eye docs? Ones who specialize in seeing just kids?

I was going to suggest asking your eye doctor, but apparently they don't have what you're looking for :-)

Maybe just shop online. Do you need the accessories right away? I think online stores would have a really great selection to choose from, that is if you're willing to wait for them to be shipped and all that.

Check online, I'm sure you'll find something. Good luck :-)
