My little brother was playing with my Canon SD400 camera and now all 200 pictures are gone from 1.0 GB SanDisk Ultra II memory card. I don't know if he "erased all" or "formated". 14 pictures were taken after the deletion.

PLEASE...does anyone know if I can retrieve these deleted photos. Anything is possible...right???? Thanks so much in advance.

YES...they can be retrieved. First, do not take anymore pictures. The new images can replace your old images and make it impossible to retrieve them.

Next, if you do not have a card reader you will need to purchase one. They are about $15 and make certain to buy an SD card reader and not a compact flash card reader.

Now, you will need to download a 3rd party data recovery software. There are hundreds, but I suggest you choose one that specializes in memory card data. I will list a few below, but having never tried them, I can't vouch for their effectiveness.

Once you've installed the software, pop the card into the card reader, connect to the drive and follow the recovery instructions.

On the up side, Canon is the most likely camera to produce deleted photos because it does not fully erase the images as other brands do. My best to you...and breathe...

This is where you say, "I wish I bought a Sandisk or Lexar card and installed their free image recovery software."

Read the other answers (sure to follow) where some users recommend sites to buy 3rd party image recovery software. If you have taken more pictures or deleted more images, the chances are slim that you will be successful, though.

Not with standard equipment. The camra would probably have to be worked on by a professional.
