Hello:
The answer to your question is no. Once you have your braces taken off, the function of the retainer is to keep your teeth in their current position while the bone and tissue around the teeth have time to harden.
So once you get fitted for your retainer, you are supposed to wear that every day for however long your Orthodontist suggests. The only reason that you would have to get another retainer is if you destroyed your first one by stepping on it. When I was a teenager, I was very careless and broke my retainer I dont know how many times. My parents finally told me if I broke it again, I would have to pay for it. I never broke one again after that.
Anyway, I hope this helped answer your question.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, MD.

No. Theyre supposed to maintain your teeth in their new position so that they don't just move back to how they were. So, they have to stay the same. You won't have to buy a new one unless you lose it.
