I was trying to watch a movie saved on my harddisk using the media player,i was not able to watch it cos the player is showing the following message-"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."What does it mean and what can i do about it,i had got my comp formated few days back,could it be related to that?

Yes it could. Can you hear sound at all with your computer? If you cannot, you need to install the sound driver for it. You can get this from the manufacturers web site, or from a disk that came with your computer.

Since you got your PC formatted a couple of days ago, you've lost all the drivers installed. Hence Windows is not able to detect/work with your sound card properly. Most likely, you cannot hear any sound from your PC as well.

To solve this problem, all that you've to do is pop the driver CD that came with your PC/Motherboard and install the sound-driver inculded on the CD and reboot your PC. It'll work fine.

check the Cables if you have accidentally plugged them wrong. And if an icon of a speaker does not show up at the windows clock than you need to install the drivers of your sound card because windows did not have those drivers.

It's possible the driver could be missing for your sound card. If you're familiar with Device Manager, go in and view sound devices, update any drivers that may be missing.

you know when u've seen that message, there is usually a number on top for example error 768 or something.

if u go onto the windows media player website, then u can browse through the errors and they'll tell u da real problem and help u solve it...good luck!
